Growing for 108 years : 1917 - 2025 ## **ANNUAL REPORT AND STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS** ## ANNUAL REPORT Although the Association has existed since November 1917, the membership sought to make the organisation more compliant with current governance expectations by seeking Registered Charity status. This was achieved on 29th January 2024 and what follows is a summary of activities from that date. The purpose of the charity is to provide leisure gardening opportunities to benefit health and social welfare by growing crops and tending an environmentally unique 3-acre site in the middle of a northern city conurbation. Our land forms part of the 13[th] century Town Moor of Newcastle upon Tyne. We welcome anyone residing in the area to enjoy open-air exercise and friendship through crop-growing and related environmental activities such as beekeeping and nature conservancy. Our first year as a charity has been, in many ways, one of survival. The autumn, winter and spring of 2023-24 provided unprecedented wet and cold weather, which tested even the most ardent gardeners and led to several of our communal events being cancelled. As the site was beginning to dry out in early summer, we were washed-out by a rupture in a nearby major water main – this destroyed many crops and weakened the resolve of some members to continue. Compensation was received to support the affected members. Writing this report in June 2025, the weather is better, the crops are growing and we are seeking a few new members – indeed anyone who cherishes getting their hands dirty. ## STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS : 30th JANUARY to 31 st DECEMBER 2024 |INCOME
