Objectives and Activities
Charitable Objects
The objects of Naramat are, for the public benefit in East Africa, to advance the Christian faith and to provide support and relief to children and young people in need — in particular, those who are vulnerable or marginalised from society. This is achieved through the provision of counselling and mentoring in line with Christian values, to assist with their reintegration into society.
Naramat provides essential support and safety to young girls who are victims of early child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM) by enabling them to remain in school. The charity also delivers practical, sustainable projects, including the installation of solar-powered boreholes and syntropic organic food gardens, which allow schools to become more self-supporting through food production and the sale of water.
Achievements and Performance
Support Projects in 2024
-
March 2024 – Food Donation for the Braves
-
Food donations were provided to the “Braves” — girls who remain at school over the Easter holidays. This ensured they continued to receive adequate nutrition and support during the break.
-
December 2024 – The Christmas Project Naramat organised its annual Christmas celebration, ensuring that every one of the 27 Braves received three gifts each. The event also extended to the local community, with the school hosting a Christmas meal for over 500 people, reflecting the charity’s Christian values of love, generosity, and inclusion.
Key Achievements in 2024
-
March 2024 – Partnership Visit from Plumpton College (UK) Naramat successfully hosted a group of 30 students from Plumpton College. This partnership was born in 2023 in which Plumpton College committed to supporting the school for five years with water and agricultural projects. Together, they contributed to three major development projects:
-
Installation of solar power across the school site.
-
Refurbishment and painting of classrooms.
-
Expansion and improvement of the school’s existing food garden.
This visit strengthened cross-cultural understanding and reinforced Naramat’s commitment to sustainability and education.
-
August 2024 – Documentary Filming Project
-
Naramat collaborated with one of its partners, Nashapai, to film a documentary highlighting the stories of girls who have escaped child marriage and FGM and found refuge at the school. The documentary aims to raise awareness of these issues, celebrate the resilience of the girls, and encourage other UK institutions to form partnerships that support long-term change in East Africa.

Financial Review
Financial Overview
Naramat remains financially stable, with funds directed primarily towards sustaining the welfare and development of the girls in its care and maintaining key operational projects.
Reserves Policy
The charity holds reserves sufficient to cover the salaries of three staff members employed at the school on behalf of the charity:
-
Hilton , the resident missionary who provides pastoral and practical support.
-
Patrick and George , the two full-time gardeners who maintain and develop the shamba (food forest).
These reserves ensure continuity of care and project sustainability, even in the event of funding fluctuations.
Plans for the Future
Looking ahead to 2025, Naramat intends to:
-
Expand its syntropic garden to two acres and bring ICT to the school to support the girls in their curriculum studies.
-
Continue to support the education and welfare of the Braves, with a focus on mentoring and leadership development through our missionary Hilton.
-
Strengthen UK–Kenya partnerships to promote sustainable development and education for girls.
