rchestra www£h•vnw)dtych¢s¢iathg. Trustees Report for the Charnwood Orchestra for the period I" August 2024 to 31st July 2025 Registered Charity Number: 1206690 Registered Address: 46 Beck Crescent, Loughborough LEII 2UT Trustees: J Barwell, S Douglas, S Marshall, Pmccrorie, T Newton, R Robinson, AM Treasure Objects The Objects of the Charnwood Orchestra are to promote, improve, develop and maintain public education in and appreciation of the art and science of orchestral music in all its aspects by the presentation of public orchestral concerts. The Trustees have collectively organised everything to make this happen. Public Statement Benefit The orchestra provides musical entertainment and education to the local community, offering discounts to children, students and those over 60. The trustees have considered the general guidance on public benefit issued by the Charities Commission and has taken due regard of that guidance and are satisfied that the orchestra's activities do provide a wide public benefit. Activities and Performance The orchestra continues to thrive and develop both musically and socially and this season we have welcomed new and younger players in each of the string sections. This is vital for the future of the orchestra. In addition to the trustees, the orchestra is most fortunate to have a team of players and non- players who work tirelessly behind the scenes and Front of House doing all those jobs that enable the orchestra to function seamlessly. The first concert of the season, in Barrow provided an opportunity to introduce our audience to a less familiar programme. Two Hungarian pieces: Bartok- Hungarian Dances and the lesser known Kodaly- Summer Evening. This concert also included Strauss Wind Serenade, showcasing the horn section: and an early Mozart Symphony, no.25. Being able to play in Barrow church gives the orchestra the opportunity to collaborate with the church and the Barrow Parish Council, taking smaller works into the heart of the community.

The November concert was an all-Russian programme with good solo performances from many of the orchestra's section leaders. Our soloists for this concert was a young local cellist, just embarking on his professional career and it was a privilege for the orchestra to be a part of this journey. Playing locally gave our soloist the opportunity to perform to so many of his friends and family, many of whom would not necessarily be able to travel to venues further away. This certainly contributed to a large and younger audience for this concert. In January, the orchestra marked the bicentenary of Strauss. As always this was a popular concert, using a local school as the venue, and welcoming back many members of the audience who are unable to travel to our concerts in Loughborough and Leicester. The orchestra welcomed back pianist Robert Markham, playing the Rachmaninov- Paganini Variations for our March concert and our Patron Tom Bowes, for ourjune concert in Leicester. We closed the season with a performance of Mahler's 1st Symphony- a work not often undertaken by an amateur orchestra as it is not only technically challenging but also requires large resources including two sets of timpani and eight horns. Although the concerts are an important element of the Charnwood Orchestra's calendar, it is the weekly rehearsal that is the backbone of our organisation. As well as the challenge and joy of tackling the music, it is the social side of being in the company of friends that makes Charnwood Orchestra one of the friendliest orchestras around. Financial Review In the year to 31" July 2025, the orchestra had a turnover of £19,708, which came predominately from membership subscriptions and concert ticket sales. Both are set at a level to cover the cost of weekly rehearsals and for the cost of putting on five concerts annually. This year, total expenditure was £17,792 giving a surplus of £1,916. Including this amount, reserves stand at £12,173. The trustees declare that they have approved the Trustee's Report above. Signed on behalf of the Charnwood Orchestra Trustees.
