The objects of the Charnwood Orchestra are to promote, improve, develop and maintain
public education in and appreciation of the art and science of orchestral music in all its
aspects by the presentation of public orchestral Con￿rtS. The Trustees have collectively
organised everyihing to make this happen.
Public Statement Benefit
The orchestra provides musical entertainment and education lo the local community,
offering discounts to children, students and those over 60. The trustees have considered
the general guidan￿ on public benefit issued by ihe Charities Commission. and has taken
due regard of that guidance and are satish'ed that Ihe orchestra's activities do provide a
wide public benefit.
Activitles and Performance
The orchestra holds weekly rehearsals offering not only musical development but
friendship and a sense of community. The orchestra often performs a concerto and soloists
can range from professional musicians to students from one of the county's music
colleges.
We perfomied five concerts this year.
A Midsummer Night's Drearn - Mendelssohn. Serenade for Wind - Dvorak. Two Walzes
for Strings- t)vorak, Symphony No.2 - Beethoven
Candide Overture - Bernstein. Sheherazade - Ravel with soloist, Lizzie Ryder, Nulcracker
Suite - Tchaikovsky. Lohengrin Preludes from Act 1 and Act 3 - Wagner, 2 works by
Sarasate- Bizet's Carmen redesigned for violin and orchestra and Zapateado performed
with soloist George Ewart, Bolero - Ravel.

This was our regular New Year Celebration with popular classics followed by a Viennese
Extravaganza of Strauss Waltzes and Polkas.
Tragic Overture - Brahms, Piano Concerto in A Minor- Schumann with soloist Robert
Markham, New World Symphony - Dvorak
Prague Symphony {no.38) - Mozart, 7th Symphony - Bruckner
Flnanclal Revlew
In the year to 31 St July 2024, the orchestra had a lurnover of £19.231 which came
predominately from membership subscriptions and concert ticket sales. Both are set at a
level to cover the cost of our weekly rehearsals and for the cost of putting on our five
annual Con￿rtS. This year totsl expenditure was £17,709 giving us a surplus of £1,522.
Including this amount, we hold reserves of £10.257 as a conlingency to cover any costs
that might arise through Can￿lIation of an evenL
