These financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Articles of Association, and Accounting and Reporting by Charities Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standards applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) (Charities SDRP (FRS102) and the Charities Act 2011). ## **Structure, Governance and Management** Charity Name: Playwam Preschool Registration Number: 1206675 Date of Registration: 23 January 2024 Address: St. Mary’s Parish Hall, Langham Road, Teddington, Middlesex, TW11 9HF Playwam Preschool is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation governed by its Foundation document. Playwam Preschool received its Certificate of Registration Approval from Ofsted on 29 May 2024. ## **Trustees for the period** Matthew Griffith Jennifer Hunt Carol Morey Anne O’Neill There must be at least 3 charity trustees. The maximum number of charity trustees is 12. ## **Objectives and Activities** ## **Our Aims** The aims of Playwam Preschool are to enhance the development and education of children primarily under statutory school age by encouraging parents to understand and provide for the needs of their children through community groups and by: 4 PLAYWAM Preschool | Charity Number: 1206675 - Offering appropriate play, education and care facilities, family learning and extended hours groups, together with the right of parents to take responsibility for and to become involved in the activities of such groups, ensuring that such groups offer opportunities for all children whatever their race, culture, religion, means or ability; - Encouraging the study of the needs of such children and their families and promoting public interest in and recognition of such needs in the local areas; - Instigating and adhering to the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage ## **Review of Activities** Playwam Preschool is situated at St Mary’s Parish Hall, Langham Road, Teddington. Playwam Preschool is registered with Ofsted and is a member of the Local Education Authority Early Years Partnership and the Early Years Alliance. All learning is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which provides a firm framework on which the children explore, develop and learn. Playwam Preschool ran 38 weeks of playgroup sessions of 3 hours 45 minutes per day during the academic year for children aged 2-4 years old. There were 7 permanent members of staff – 6 Early Years Practitioners and one part-time administrator/bookkeeper. There are 3 more staff members who supply cover when required. The playgroup is an active member of the community, regularly contributing to and providing fundraising events. ## **Achievements and Performance** Playwam Preschool uses the four principles of practice within the Early Years Foundation Stage: 1. a unique child 2. positive relationships 3. enabling environments 4. learning and development Staff at Playwam Preschool: - protect and nurture the wellbeing, health and confidence of the child - motivate active learners - encourage a sense of belonging and form the base of a secure relationship with parents and key workers - value and promote play as providing meaningful learning and ensure the opportunities are fair and equal, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, age or background 5 PLAYWAM Preschool | Charity Number: 1206675 - recognise children learn in different way and at different rates and that all areas of learning are equally important and inter-connected. The areas of learning and development within the EYFS are based around seven broad areas of learning: ## Prime Areas 1. Personal, Social and Emotional Development 2. Communication and Language 3. Physical Development ## Specific Areas 4. Mathematics 5. Understanding the World 6. Expressive Arts and Designs 7. Literacy Playwam Preschool acknowledges that parents are their children’s first and foremost educators and they understand their children better than anyone else. We therefore encourage them to share information about their children’s strengths and interests and to play an active role in activities at Playwam. ## **Financial Review** The Trustees have prepared accounts for Playwam Preschool in accordance with the requirements of the SORP of best accounting practice. The charity’s main income is fees from childcare services. By collecting fees in advance, the charity maintains a healthy cash flow despite budgeting to break even. Early Education Funding (EEF) is received for eligible 2, 3 and 4 year olds. Playwam Preschool received income of £45,281 for the period ending 31 July 2024. Expenditure was £25,010, leaving a net income of £20,271. Expenditure was on staff, rent and direct activity costs. There was one fundraising event – the Summer Fair – organised by the parents of children at Playwam and supported by the staff. Playwam Preschool received its Certificate of Registration Approval from Ofsted on 29 May 2024; income/expenditure reflects the income from this date until 31 July 2024. Full details of the financial information are included in pages 9-13. ## **Reserves Policy** Playwam Preschool does not intend to accumulate significant reserves, but reserves are held to protect against future financial obligations. 6 PLAYWAM Preschool | Charity Number: 1206675 ## **Public Benefit Statement** The Trustees have paid due regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit in deciding the activities undertaken by the Charity in the period. The Trustees are satisfied that the information provided in the report and accounts meets the public benefit reporting requirements. ## **Plans for Future Periods** For 2024 Playwam Preschool’s focus was on working with both children and their families to support every child to achieve their full potential. Playwam Preschool plans to further support this focus in 2025 alongside EYFS learning and inspiring the children to be confident, curious and kind. Carol Morey 31[st] May 2025 7 PLAYWAM Preschool | Charity Number: 1206675 ## **Independent Examiner’s Report** I report to the trustees on my examination of the financial statements of Playwam for the year ended 31 July 2024. ## **Responsibilities and basis of report** As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act). I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s financial statements carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act. In carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act. ## **Independent examiner's statement** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: - 1 accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the 2011 Act; or - 2 the financial statements do not accord with those records; or - 3 the financial statements do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. Accounting Policies** ## **Basis of Preparation** The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102), and the Charities Act 2011. The charity meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. The financial statements are prepared on a going concern basis under the historical cost convention. ## **Income** Income is recognised when the charity is legally entitled to it, receipt is probable, and the amount can be measured reliably. This includes: - Fees from childcare services recognised in the period the service is provided. - Early Education Funding (EEF) for eligible children recognised in the period to which the funding relates. - Fundraising income recognised when the event takes place or when received. ## **Expenditure** Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis as a liability is incurred. Expenditure includes: - Costs directly related to the operation of the playgroup (staff salaries, rent, materials). - Fundraising costs and governance costs. ## **Fund Accounting** The charity maintains only unrestricted funds unless restricted donations are specifically received.
