Derbyshire Gypsy Liaison Group Annual Review 2025 **Charity Number 1206513** ## October - Following on from Derbyshire Gypsy Liaison Group’s successful NPPF consultations on the planning system in August and September, which saw two good consultation documents go forward on the proposed planning policy changes and in particular “Grey belt. We were delighted to announce the following. - The National Women, Children, Education and Safeguarding group consultations were held in relation to the review of the National Curriculum. - • The Education and women’s group formed because of inappropriate material in School , totally inappropriate age related material for children as young as three years old. - Funded and supported by ERGO ## November October to November. The Women’s Children Education and Safeguarding group conducted a snapshot survey with 40 mothers, gathering additional evidence through WhatsApp. They also received input from members of other BME groups, including Syrian community and a Malaysian mother who sought guidance. The group collaborated with Protect Teach, whose members attended a consultation meeting with DGLG in September. This collaboration brought together mothers to address shared concerns about the education system. A bunch of ordinary men and women. We are, however, ordinary men and women with a mission. Mission Statement: Protect Teach We propose to protect children in education. We intend to keep our children, our grandchildren, our nephews and nieces, children in the care of the state as well as your children and grandchildren safe from gender ideology which is sweeping unchecked through educational establishments, children’s services, children’s clubs and associations, children’s television programs, children’s books and children’s entertainment. In order to further our mission we have joined with a large number of interested adults from all walks of life to pursue our stated aims in the most effective ways we can find. These other adults are welcome associates to Protect &Teach. ## December - Over the years Derbyshire Gypsy Liaison Group has tried to help grieving families and prescriptive cemetery rules. The law Commission recognises that there may be changes needed .We have also found that this would be beneficial not just for Gypsy people but for the wider community, especially if a family have lost a baby or a child. - We responded to the Law Commission Consultation on burial and cremation, unfortunately there was a bad 5 line press release about this consultation , (which happened to be about 389 pages in length) There is no plan to dig up soldiers from the Great war or the second World War ( as the press reported) and the consultation was undertaken in a sensitive way. We have answered on a national level, especially around the issue of re use of graves, families find this an upsetting concept and we do not believe in grave re-use. - We put in extensive evidence of disputes over headstones. Although the plot holder own the grave, they do not have exclusive rights and this is something that needs to be reviewed, as many families cannot recover from the grieving progress and especially if they are at war with the cemetery over the height , width or colour of stone, lets hope there will be a review of prescriptive cemetery rules and we will post any updates. - We also undertook an appeal on size of headstone January https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/news/stoke-on-trent-news/grieving-families-allowed-larger- headstones 9853289 ## January • Fragility of Freedom was the theme this year for Holocaust Memorial Day and we attended London 24[th] January for the capital event. This event was by invite only and unfortunately had to be kept totally secret, due to the increasing attacks on the Jewish community. The Jewish and Romany community share a history of the Holocaust and pogroms. ## February - Foundation Derbyshire Food Access Program and Moving for Change one off Cost of Living Grants helped families and individuals across, Derbyshire, East Midlands and the West Midlands - We work closely with the following networks, especially for elder and disabled members of community - Age UK - LINKS - Derbyshire Community Health Services Board development - Working together with VCSE. - We have given workshops in Palliative care and the culture around bereavement this last year. ## March - Adrian Jones continues to work within the West Midlands. - Training for Samaritans on the agenda for this next year, last year we undertook work with Citizen Advice Centres across West Midlands in particular. - In reality CA Centres should be accessible for all. ## April - Derbyshire Makers event at Cromford Mills 12[th] and 13[th] April • Schools flower workshops 7 in total and a morning assembly, falling on April 8[th] for Roma day, this was a perfect activity for the Middlemarch school, Nuneaton. We are looking to develop work further with Cromford Mills in future events. Historical cultural and artistic events are fun to do and no one gets politically angry ! ## May Working in Warwickshire and West Midlands This report looks at the drivers of social and planning needs for Romany Gypsies and Irish Travellers in Warwickshire. As such it should be noted that it does not look at the needs of Show people or members of the Roma was community. The report prepared in light of discussions in providing extra provision, in particular transit provision at the former Leamington FC football ground. ## June • Derbyshire Open Gardens Event at Beeley. We had a successful heritage and culture event with over 240 people coming through the open gardens. Special installations, Gypsy books as the theme. KIIIVES aS¢ISSORS RFGRQTJ li ## July - Access and Inequality Funding :NHS Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) - This funding has allowed us to review health access and with the funding we carried out. - 175 phone calls - 10 full health checks - 23 cases health and well being - registered 3 individuals with a GP - 8 new pieces of casework came about from the outreach, ## August - Memorial tree in Chatworth Park. Memorial flowers put on twice a year on the 27[th] January and August 2[nd] ## September - Excellent month for planning results Certificate of Lawful Use Amber Valley Borough Council. - Land in South Derbyshire successful appeal with costs. - Appeal lodged, we await news on a site in the High Peak near Buxton. - The Hawking Basket. We celebrated Heritage Open Days over the weekend of the 13[th] & 14[th] . Flower making displays were very popular.
