Director5 report
for tho year ended 30 September 2024
Review of actlvity for October 2023 to September 2024 accounting year
Open Kitchen Social Club (OKSC) started life as an independent, constituted community
group in 2014. On 11th January 2024 we became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
Our free weekly socials are on Mondays from 10am at St Andrews URC Church Hall, Upper
Hanover Way, S3 7RQ and also on Tuesdays, currently from a temporary base in the Quaker
Meeting House (whilst the Sanctuary on Chapel Walk is being refurbished). We currently
provide more than 175 meals each week. All are very welcome to come along & join us- we
share a free meal together at 12:30pm. As part of our outreach, OKSC also provTrde Dhal and
Pide Bread once a month for those who attend the Victoria Hall Wednesday Drop-ln sessions,
to introduce OKSC to New Arrivals.
OKSC is a special project providing free shared meals and the lifeline of human connection lo
anybody in the city who needs it. Meals cater for all dietary requirements, and the people who
eat them can be refugees, asylum seekers, homeless or just local people who need
sustenance or wish to connect with us. These sessions increase social cohesion & help
relieve isolation.
We had a great time on Christrnas Day itself, with many who would otherwise be on Iheir own,
sharing a Christmas feast. presents, music and dancing, in the Sanctuary on Chapel Walk.
Our seaside coach trip in August was to Llandudno in Wales this year, as a lovely change from
the East coast. Our volunteers, session leads and trustees also had useful Away Days in
Edale, allowing us to get to know one another a bit better, away from the pressures of cooking
to a deadline and formal meetings Our Away Days help us find out what people currently
enjoy, value and appreciate about OKSC (why they come & Join in) & ways they think it could
usefully develop in the future.
This year we have continued to support our members. We give a basic induction to new
volunteers_ We refund the cost of Food Hygiene Level 2 training for those who can lead
sessions. Hope English School are providing free term time ESOL classes during Monday
sessions for our volunteers. We enjoyed benefits training from Citizens Advi￿ & 1 aid for
Adults from the Red Cross.
Our event catering provides useful team building & paid work experience, plus some financial
support for our weekly sessions. We catered for 40 events this accounting year. These were
wide ranging, from a field kitchen in a tent for a wedding in Gainsborough, to a paty which
required a trek across Flying Horse Lawnl
We apply for Grant funding most years. but also invite people to help secure our future, by
joining our group of Friends of OKSC who give regular financial donations- we welcome any
multiple of £5 a month- enough to help pay for the ingredients for two meals.
We give thanks for all who support our project- with shared time, practical help, financial
donationsldiscounts, shared life experien￿. skills. Invitations to cater and donations of
ingredients.

Independent Examiner's report to the Management Committee of
Open Kitchen Social Club
for the year ended 30 September 2024
I report on the accounts of the Open Kitchen Social Club for the year ended
30 September 2024 which are set out on pages 5 to 7.
Respective responsibilities of the management committee and the examiner
The organisation is an incorporated associabon and, as such, in under no stalutory
obligation to prepare accounts in any particular format. nor is it obliged to have those
accounts subject to any extemal scrutiny such as audit or independent examination.
However, the committee members have determined that an independent examinab'on
would be appropriate.
Basis of independent examinerfs report
An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the organisats.on
and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records It also includes
Consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking
explanations from the committee members conceming any such matters The
procedures undertaken do not provide all the eviden￿ that would be required in an
audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.
Independent examiner's ststement
In connection with my examination. no matter has come to my attenbon..
1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the
committee fflembers have not met the requirements to ensure that..
proper accounting records are kept, and
accounts are prepared which agree wilh the accounting records",
or
2} to which, in my opinion, attents'on should be drawn in order to enable a proper
understanding of the accounts to be reached
