The charity was formed with the intention of entering into a long term lease with Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) the the owners of Haverfordwest Castle to manage and operate the visitor centre and support facilities on the site, including the museum and events space. Currently this intent is expressed in a partnership agreement with PCC whilst the development of the site is taking place.

Objects: The Objects Of The CIO Are: 1) The Advancement Of Education In The History And Heritage Of The Historic Role Of Haverfordwest, By:(1) The Establishment And Maintenance Of A Museum And Its Associated Collection;(2) A Heritage Visitor Centre And Outdoor Events And Interpretation Space Located At The Site Of Haverfordwest Castle2) To Promote The Conservation And Preservation Of Haverfordwest Castle For The Public Benefit.nothing In The Constitution Shall Authorise An Application Of The Property Of The CIO For The Purposes Which Are Not Charitable.
