|Summary of the purposes of<br>the charity as set out in its<br>governing document|Para 1.17|The objects of the CIO are for the public<br>benefit, to relieve the needs of people living<br>with dementia in the UK and their friends,<br>family and carers that accompany them by<br>providing regular events (discos) in order to<br>use the power of music to inspire memory,<br>conversation and friendship.|
|Summary of the main<br>activities in relation to those<br>purposes for the public<br>benefit, in particular, the<br>activities, projects or services<br>identified in the accounts.|Para 1.17 and<br>1.19|**Fully Funded, Free to attend Community**<br>**Discos:**We organise and host regular, free-<br>to-attend evening, weekend discos across<br>our hub locations (including Stockport and<br>expanding into regional networks). These<br>events target a critical community gap by<br>specifically providing activities outside of<br>traditional working hours and appealing to<br>younger people living with dementia through<br>iconic music selections from the 1960s, 70s,<br>and 80s.<br>**Multigenerational Engagement & Carer**<br>**Support:**Our events provide a welcoming,<br>relaxed environment not just for the<br>individual and their primary carer, but for<br>wider family and friends. This creates<br>opportunities for joyful, multigenerational<br>connection while simultaneously offering<br>flexible respite for primary carers.<br>**Provision of Free Meals:**To foster a warm,<br>inclusive, and social atmosphere, we provide<br>a free meal to all attendees at our venue-<br>based events, helping to break down social<br>isolation.<br>**Mobile Outreach and Digital Expansion:**<br>We operate mobile discos to bring the music<br>and physical benefits directly into care<br>homes for individuals unable to travel.<br>**Volunteer Mobilisation:**We recruit, train,|

|||and coordinate a dedicated team of<br>volunteers to manage event logistics,<br>hospitality, and session delivery, ensuring<br>our events remained sustainable, safe, and<br>free for the community.|

|Contribution made by<br>volunteers|Para 1.38|Dementia Disco is incredibly proud of its<br>volunteer-led roots, and our volunteers<br>remain the absolute heartbeat of our<br>charity's operations. Without their dedication,<br>passion, and time, we would not be able to<br>deliver our core services or keep our events<br>free for the community.<br>Key highlights of our volunteer contribution<br>during this period include:<br>**Growing a Dedicated Network:**Following<br>our feature on BBC Breakfast in January<br>2026, we experienced a massive surge in<br>community support, receiving 50 new<br>volunteer applications in a single month.<br>This successfully expanded our active<br>pipeline to 74 approved, trained volunteers<br>equipped to run and support our sessions.<br>**Event Delivery and Logistics:**Our<br>volunteer team manages everything from<br>venue setup and hospitality to event logistics<br>and participant engagement. Their efforts<br>have enabled us to deliver over 200 venue-<br>based community discos and 40 care home<br>sessions from inception (in 2019) to early<br>2026, serving over 10,000 free meals to<br>attendees.<br>**Grassroots Community Leadership:**<br>Volunteers have been instrumental in<br>launching new locations, securing local|

council funding, and establishing local partnerships, as demonstrated by the launch of our Poynton disco. **Governance and Lived Experience:** Our volunteers actively shape the strategic direction of the charity by stepping into leadership roles, including joining our Board of Trustees to ensure the crucial voice of the carer is directly represented. **Recognised Excellence:** The exceptional commitment of our team was formally recognised locally when we won the Volunteer Team Award at Stockport Rocks and we have been nominated for The King’s Award for Voluntary Service 2026. Our volunteers not only give their time but also experience personal benefits; 94% of our volunteers describe our events as joyful, reporting a heightened sense of purpose and a deeper personal understanding of dementia. The trustees extend their deepest gratitude to every volunteer who helps lead the dance. For further details on our volunteer milestones, please refer to our full Impact Report. Other

## **Achievements and Performance**

|---|---|---|
|Summary of the main<br>achievements of the charity,<br>identifying the difference the<br>charity’s work has made to<br>the circumstances of its<br>beneficiaries and any wider<br>benefits to society as a<br>whole.|Para 1.20|**1. Main Achievements and Scaling**<br>**National Expansion:**<br>The charity successfully scaled its<br>operations from a single grassroots idea to<br>running eight monthly weekend discos<br>across England, spanning from<br>Northumberland to London, with three more<br>launching in July 2026.<br>**Massive Financial Resilience:**Our total<br>income grew by nearly 300%, rising from<br>£13.8k in 2024 to £55k in 2025, built on a<br>resilient mix of grants, donations, and<br>community fundraising. This allowed us to<br>fund our very first paid staff role through a<br>grant from The Fore, transitioning our charity<br>into a sustainable operational model.|

**Media and National Recognition:** Following a feature on BBC Breakfast’s Rise and Shine segment in January 2026, the charity gained immense national exposure, resulting in 20 new disco locations in development, 50 new volunteer applications in a single month, and a nomination for the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service. **Delivery Milestones:** From inception to early 2026, we delivered over 200 venue-based community discos, 40 care home sessions, and provided more than 10,000 free meals to our community. **2. Difference Made to the Circumstances of Beneficiaries** Our work provides a safe, judgment-free sanctuary where the heavy fog of dementia lifts, offering profound mental and physical benefits to our core beneficiaries: **Reducing Loneliness and Building Connection:** 97% of our disco-goers report feeling more connected to others, and 93% experience increased social interaction. Cognitive and Physical Stimulation: 85% of participants recall precious memories through the power of music, and 73% feel more energised after our sessions. In care home settings, staff report increased movement and unexpected moments of recognition from isolated residents. **Vital Respite for Carers:** Our early evening and weekend timings target a critical community gap. They offer a space for peer support where full-time carers can step out of their demanding roles, alleviate emotional pressure, and share joyful, normal experiences with their loved ones.

**3. Wider Benefits to Society as a Whole** Beyond our direct participants, Dementia Disco provides meaningful, systemic benefits to wider society:

**Challenging Public Perceptions and Reducing Stigma:** We use an experiential approach to shift the public narrative surrounding dementia from limitation to possibility. Our national media features and public campaigns (such as Dance Against Dementia, which logged 5,668 dances to protest the removal of NHS dementia diagnosis targets) convert passive awareness into tangible civic action.

**Empowering Local Communities:** By

providing a "Run Your Own" disco toolkit, training, and infrastructure, we are lowering barriers to entry and empowering local volunteers, care providers, and civic leaders across England and Wales to build sustainable, community-led support networks. For a more detailed breakdown of our delivery statistics, participant testimonies, and future scaling plans, please refer to our full Impact Report.

## **Financial Review**

|Review of the charity’s<br>financial position at the end<br>of the period|Para 1.21|The charity experienced an exceptionally<br>strong period of financial growth and<br>stabilisation during the year ending 31st<br>December 2025, driven by a substantial<br>increase in incoming resources and<br>diversification of funding streams.<br>**Income and Resources Expended**<br>Total incoming resources for the year<br>reached £54,684, representing an increase<br>of nearly 300% compared to the previous<br>year’s income of £13,788. This growth was<br>successfully balanced across multiple<br>revenue streams:<br>**Voluntary Income:**£16,121 generated<br>through donations.<br>**Fundraising Activities:**£16,796 brought in<br>via community raffles, merchandise sales,<br>and event tickets.<br>**Charitable Activities & Grants:**£21,767<br>secured through mobile care home discos<br>and project-focused grants (including<br>£20,367 in restricted income funds).<br>Total resources expended during the period<br>were £44,088, with the vast majority<br>(£41,957) directed directly into service<br>delivery for our charitable activities.<br>Fundraising trading costs were managed<br>efficiently at £1,468, and governance costs<br>were kept minimal at £663.<br>**Financial Performance and Reserves**<br>**Position**<br>The charity achieved a positive net<br>movement in funds of £10,596 for the year<br>(up from £58 in 2024).<br>**At the end of the financial period:**<br>**Total Funds Carried Forward:**Total charity<br>funds increased significantly to £15,391 (up<br>from £4,795 brought forward from the prior<br>year).<br>**Unrestricted Resilience:**The charity’s<br>unrestricted funds stood at £15,391, giving<br>the organisation substantially stronger<br>operational agility and long-term financial<br>resilience heading into its next phase of<br>national growth.<br>**Restricted Funds:**All restricted project|
|---|---|---|

|||funding available during the period was<br>successfully utilised. Carried forward<br>restricted funds at the end of the year were<br>£16,655 and are expected to be utilised fully<br>during 2026.<br>**Balance Sheet Strength**<br>The charity’s liquidity is in an excellent<br>position. Total current assets stood at<br>£34,763, comprising £31,769 in cash at<br>bank, £2,546 in merchandise stock, and<br>£448 in debtors. After accounting for short-<br>term creditors falling due within one year<br>(£20,140), the charity maintains a healthy<br>net current asset position of £14,623. Total<br>fixed tangible assets (such as equipment)<br>stand at a net book value of £768.<br>The trustees are satisfied that the charity<br>holds sufficient reserves and liquidity to meet<br>its current commitments and confidently<br>support its upcoming strategic expansions.|
|---|---|---|
|Statement explaining the<br>policy for holding reserves<br>stating why they are held|Para 1.22|The trustees have reviewed the charity’s<br>requirements for reserves in light of the main<br>risks facing the organisation and its<br>upcoming national expansion plans.<br>**Why We Hold Reserves**<br>Dementia Disco holds unrestricted reserves<br>for the following key reasons:<br>**Operational Continuity:**To ensure that our<br>core monthly community discos can continue<br>to run seamlessly and remain completely<br>free to attend, even during periods of<br>unexpected funding delays or drop-offs in<br>public donations.<br>**Working Capital:**To manage everyday<br>cash flow requirements, covering essential<br>overheads, volunteer expenses, and<br>administrative costs.<br>**Strategic Agility:**To provide the financial<br>flexibility required to safely develop and<br>seed-fund our community-led expansion<br>model, rollout our local "Run Your Own"<br>toolkits, and transition sustainably as we<br>grow.<br>**Our Target Reserves Policy**<br>The trustees have established a policy that<br>the charity should aim to maintain free<br>unrestricted reserves equivalent to<br>approximately 3 to 6 months of core<br>operating expenditure. Based on our 2025|

|||expenditure, this target equates to a range of<br>approximately £6,000 to £12,000.<br>**Current Financial Position against Policy**<br>At the end of the financial period (31st<br>December 2025), the charity held total<br>unrestricted reserves of £15,391.<br>This current level sits slightly above our<br>standard baseline target. The trustees<br>consider this to be a prudent and necessary<br>position at this time. This additional buffer<br>was intentionally built up through a diverse<br>funding mix and a successful BBC Breakfast<br>broadcast in early 2026. Holding these extra<br>funds ensures the charity is fully resilient and<br>well-resourced to safely navigate the<br>significant upfront costs associated with<br>launching 10 new community discos over the<br>next 12 months.|

|Explanation of any<br>uncertainties about the<br>charity continuing as a going<br>concern|Para 1.23|The trustees have reviewed the charity’s<br>financial position, anticipated future income,<br>and operational commitments for the next 12<br>months from the date of approving these<br>financial statements.<br>The trustees are pleased to report that there<br>are no material uncertainties that cast<br>significant doubt upon the charity's ability to<br>continue as a going concern.<br>This assessment is supported by the<br>following factors:<br>**Strong Cash Reserves:**The charity ended<br>the 2025 financial period in an excellent<br>liquidity position, holding £31,769 in cash at<br>the bank, with total unrestricted reserves<br>standing at £15,391.<br>**Diversified and Growing Income:**<br>Following our feature on BBC Breakfast in<br>January 2026, the charity secured an<br>immediate influx of direct public donations, a<br>major new corporate partnership, and a<br>300% year-on-year increase in income<br>during 2025.<br>**Controlled Fixed Overheads:**Our<br>operational model remains highly flexible,<br>with core project costs scaling alongside<br>secured funding, minimising structural fixed|

overhead risks.

Accordingly, the financial statements have been prepared on a going-concern basis.

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

**Independent examiner's statement** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination (other than that disclosed below *) which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or

- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or

- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
