Paying regard to Charity Commission Guidance on processes and policies necessary for a new charity including guidance on public benefit the trustees have established essential policies concerning the recruitment and conduct of trustees together with a Trustee Handbook and policies related to conflicts of interest, ethical fundraising, data protection (including registration for GDPR), financial controls, and complaints. A developing website is in place, together with other awareness raising media. This work underpins a Five-Year Strategy with milestones to guide the charity’s work. Further work on governance matters for 2026 onwards will be set out in yearly action plans.
**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**
With sufficient funds available Trustees were able to commission Trafford Music Serivice to deliver the second year (starting in September 2025) of a national Awards for Young Musicians project in partnership with Young Sounds for 12 year 4 children from St Alphonsus Primary School in Old Trafford. The children have been gifted a clarinet and are receiving weekly tuition in small groups during term time. In March 2025 the children joined others from schools in other Greater Manchester Boroughs at the Royal Northern College of Music to extend their learning in a range of areas including a focus on rhythm and singing.
In September 2025 the first year of a replication project was launched with Our Lady of Lourdes RC Primary School in Partington with 8 primary children learning the trombone.
By delivering in school the projects remove both financial and transportation barriers to learning. Impact evaluation is carried out by Young Sounds and discussed with trustees.
The first year of a two-year grant from the High Lee House Trust enabled a new project to be commissioned with Trafford Music Service. The grant provides for 18 Special School workshops as part of a wider project to create a small inclusive orchestra with specialist additional needs support. Work on the project began in the autumn term 2025. It is envisaged that being able to operate directly with children in their school environment will both increase reach and boost membership for core sessions held at the Trafford Music Service’s Claremont Centre.

Our main achievements in the charity’s year have been to
- Continue the progress towards sound governance through the implementation of essential policies and processes and meeting the annual objectives set in relation to the charity’s five-year strategy.
- Identify the additional skills required for the board and prepare appropriate advertising materials for new trustees with such skills.
- Secure funding to continue our first project in an underserved area of Trafford and to start a replication project in a second underserved area of Trafford.
- Successfully seek grant aid (over two years) to provide music workshops in special school and mainstream school special educational needs provision.
