## Aims and objectives

These are outlined in our constitution but can be summarised as follows:

To promote equality and diversity for the public benefit and in particular, the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity.

This to be achieved by

1. Raising public awareness with regard to discrimination

2. Cultivating equality and diversity within our communities

3. Educational activities

4. Collaboration with other community groups

5. Providing safe spaces for LGBTQIA people

6. Putting on an annual Pride event

7. Producing literature/merchandise

## Activities during the year to meet the objectives

1. Raising awareness. We organised NPT’s first LGBTQ+ History event in conjunction with Neath YMCA and NPT council. This comprised three speakers and a buffet and was attended by approximately 50 people from statutory and voluntary bodies along with members of the public. We attended college Freshers’ week events and had stands at community fairs at Margam park and the Plaza in Port Talbot. We have two Facebook groups - NPT Pride and Swansea Neath Port Talbot LGBTQ+ Hub.

2. Equality and diversity were at the heart of all our events, from social gatherings to theatre and film shows.

3. Educational activities: Our Secretary and Chair spoke at events organised by NPT council and the police. We organised a glow up workshop and craft workshops.

4. We collaborated with local venues to support our Pride event.

5. Safe Spaces -Neath YMCA started an adult LGBTQ+ group and we were able to support that and organise monthly social socials in a safe space in Port Talbot. In addition, we organised four well-attended LGBTQ+ brunches.

6. We put on an ambitious Pride event on 9[th] June 2024 with a full day of national and local entertainment.

7. We used a local printer to produce some merchandise and material.

## Trustees

As of October 2025, at the time of writing this annual report, we are actively recruiting new trustees. Our trustees are generally recruited via advertising on our Facebook groups and are, in the main, drawn from the LGBTQ+ community.

## Observations

January 2024- January 2025 was a year of successes and failures for NPT Pride. Whilst we were able to raise our profile on social media and were successful in embedding NPT Pride into some local organisations and structures, the trustees feel that the way forward in 2025-2026 is more community cohesion and a return to a smaller, more localised Pride event. Pride 2024 was beset by venue problems which resulted in a ticketed event to help to cover costs. Pride 2025 will be a free event funded from grants and fundraising.
