Objectives and Activities

Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document	Para 1.17	To advance the education of its playing members and the public at large in the art and science of brass band music in particular but not exclusively through the provision of public performances and training in brass music skills including work with local schools.
Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts.	Para 1.17 and 1.19	The Band provides education and training in musicianship for all ages under the direction of qualified and experienced brass tutors. The Band provides music services to Ampthill and surrounding communities, notably for town and village festivals, Armistice Parades, Christmas services and carol events, church and club events, and other special occasions. It performs in Ampthill’s public parks and spaces, and gives seasonal concerts, sometimes shared with school and senior choirs and other music organisations. During 2025 the band gave 31 public performances, for Ampthill Town Council, Ampthill-based Community Organisations , the Band’s own concert events, community events, village fetes etc, in neighbouring areas. The Christmas period is particularly busy. During 2025, with external grant aid, the Band continued its collaboration with Inspiring Music, Central Bedfordshire District Council’s Music Service,topromote

		brass musicianship in the local Middle Schools , including tuition and joint performances.Particularly exiting is the preparation for a new Learner Band that the band plans to start in January 2026. The revenues and expenditures shown in the accounts fully represent these activities.
Statement confirming whether the trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit	Para 1.18	In fulfilling their obligations, the Band’s trustees have ensured that the activities carried out, and the commitment of resources under their control, are entirely consistent with the purposes of the charity and the benefits to the public, as playing members and as recipients of the services of the Band.

Policy on grant making.	Para 1.38	The Band is not a grant maker. It is a recipient of grants in support of its activities, mainly from Ampthill Town Council and from Trust Funds or Corporate donors.
Policy on social investment including program related investment.	Para 1.38	The Band invests in the development of knowledge and skills in brass musicianship, under the guidance of trained and experienced specialist music tutors. The Band helps young players, and older players returning to music, to acquire and further develop competencies in the understanding, playing and performance of music individually and in ensemble. The Band has invested its resources (and volunteering effort) on developing brass musicianship among school age children in collaboration with the Local Government Music Service (as referred to above). The Band performs for and collaborates with other local organisations to mutual benefit, including those engaged in civic and caring services.
Contribution made by volunteers	Para 1.38	The trustees and playing members of the Band give freely of their time, including the planning and delivery of its extensive performance schedule,as well as its

		collaborative training and educational activities.
Other		Ampthill Town Band, established more than 120 years ago, is an important cultural organisation that is a unique part of the Town’s heritage, identity and sense of place. Its long and continued existence, and the support it receives from the local community, demonstrates the resilience of the Band, and its contribution and worth to thepublic wellbeing.

Achievements and Performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole.	Para 1.20	There are two main groups of beneficiaries: (i) Band players and their families About 30 existing members, covering a range of ages and backgrounds, benefit through improved knowledge and skills, and a developed sense of community belonging and contribution. (ii) Band public audiences: the Band typically performs on about 30 occasions per year, mostly in public places, to audiences that range from 80 people to 2,000 (Summer ‘Proms’ type events in the Park). The Band leads the Armistice Parades in Ampthill and Flitwick which are each attended by about 1,000 people. Christmas Carolling probably serves over 2,500 people. About 10,000 people probably hear or 'listen' to the Band in any year. We also play at seasonal village fetes that support local businesses and traders.

Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period	Para 1.21	With total revenue of £15,437 and expenditure of £10,727, the surplus for the year ending December 2025 was £4710.
Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held	Para 1.22	A minimum target reserve of £3,000 to £4,000 is considered appropriate to cover emergency instrument repairs and variations of in-year cash flow. Other than this, no reserves are kept for specific purposes, however Cash at Bank and in hand can peak at approximately £14,000 during the year. Ampthill Band does not own or operate any other funds.
