Garstang Hockey Club

Report of the Trustees for the period ending 30[th] April 2025

The Trustees of Garstang Hockey Club present their annual report and accounts for the period ending 30[th] April 2025 and confirm they comply with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 and the Charities SORP (FRS102)

Our Object

The object of the CIO is the advancement of the amateur sport of hockey in Garstang and the surrounding areas for the public benefit by the provision of facilities for playing hockey and opportunities for recreation, coaching, umpiring and competition.

Achievement and performance

During the period of the report the club fielded 5 senior Women’s Teams, 3 Senior Men’s Teams and multiple age group team for junior aged between 8 and 18. We also entered a team into the Ladies Indoor Championships for the first time as well a s a mixed veteran’s team into the North West league 500 competition.

The Club provided training on a Tuesday and a Thursday evening for members of the club as well as competitive and friendly fixtures on both Saturdays and Sundays.

All teams remained in their respective leagues and our junior teams had success in reaching the finals of the In2Hockey regional competitions.

Membership numbers remained relatively stable throughout the period allowing the club to remain competitive in all leagues and competitions

Financial performance

Membership Fees for all outfield players were maintained at the same level as the previous year, with the same discounts applied for early payment. A new membership fee was introduced for Goalkeepers who provided and maintained their own equipment – this was to acknowledge the additional cost that players incurred for being a goalkeeper, if they provided their own equipment. Goal keeping equipment was still provided by the club, for those who wished to play in this position but did not have their own equipment.

The club remained financially stable and therefore the trustees sought to make sure that social events such as the end of season presentation evening, covered costs rather than made a surplus. In addition, sponsorship deals were agreed that allowed the trustees to substantially

subsidise the cost of new playing kit for all members of the club. In additional an agreement was entered into with the owner of the Brockholes Arms to provide free food to members of the club and visiting teams after all homes games. This significantly reduced the cost to all players whilst building team and club spirit.
