Trustees' Report
The Trustees present their annual report and accounts for the first period ended 31 December
- During this period, the charity had dormant accounts.
Structure, governance and management
Hulme, Moss Side and Rusholme Our Green Space (known as Our Green Space) is constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) Foundation, as a body corporate under Part 11 of the Charities Act 2011 on the 28 Jul 2017.
Trustees are legally responsible for the governance and management of the charity. Trustees are responsible of everyday operational decision making and setting strategies and policies for ensuring these are implemented.
Risk management
The charity's trustees have considered the major risks to which the charity is exposed and have reviewed potential risks. Systems and procedures have been put in place to manage the risks and to mitigate any adverse outcomes.
The Board recognises the risks associated with entering into a lease where land rights, access controls, and safeguarding of the space have not been fully resolved. These include:
-
Safeguarding and health & safety risk – exposure of volunteers and community users to unsafe or unmanaged environments.
-
Operational and financial risk – inability to deliver planned activities or generate income due to lack of secure site access. Fundraising for capital costs are contingent on a long-term lease, and fundraising for ongoing costs (e.g., insurance, maintenance) will not be undertaken until we can guarantee operations can commence.
-
Reputational risk – perception of inactivity or inability to manage the space.
Future decisions about the lease will be contingent on clear resolution of these issues with Manchester City Council.
Community Engagement Summary
Over the year, the charity has engaged local community stakeholders through consultation and collaborative planning for Our Green Space. Activities have included:
-
Resident and stakeholder consultation – focus groups, surveys, and creative methods to explore community needs and aspirations for the green space.
-
Partnership development – dialogue with local schools, community groups, and potential delivery partners for forest school, green therapy, and environmental education.
-
Volunteer and training planning – identification of training needs in forest school facilitation, safeguarding, and environmental management.
-
Theory of Change and business planning workshops – co-design sessions with partners and residents to agree the vision, governance structure, and priorities for the project.
Findings highlighted strong local support for preserving and using the site as a safe, inclusive space for environmental education, wellbeing, and social justice.
There is particular interest from schools and mental health services in accessible forest-school and therapeutic activities once the site becomes operational.

Objectives and activities
The governing scheme defines the charity's objects as being to:
-
(a) Advancing in life and helping young people by developing their skills, capacities, and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature, and responsible individuals
-
(b) Advancing education
-
(c) Providing recreational and leisure time activity in the interests of social welfare for people living in the area of benefit who have need by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, poverty or social and economic circumstances with a view to improving the conditions of life of such persons
Achievements and Performance
The CIO was dormant during this period. During the year, the charity has not actively raised income as the organisation’s lease arrangement with Manchester City Council has faced significant operational challenges. The leased site has been subject to unauthorised use, including rough sleeping and regular access by the skateboarding community. These issues have limited our ability to safely access, secure, and develop the space for planned activities, and therefore delayed delivery of income-generating programmes.
Financial review
No transaction took place during this period.
Future plans
Our Green Space will commence fundraising once existing lease issues have been resolved with Manchester City Council.

Trustees' responsibilities statement
The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees’ Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
The law applicable to charities in England & Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to:
-
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
-
observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP;
-
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
-
state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements;
-
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the trust deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities
