APCM Report 2025 from the Vicar

As we reflect on 2025, we do so with gratitude for God’s continued faithfulness and favour to us as a church family. The words of Psalm 126:3 feel particularly fitting:

“The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”

It has been a year of steady growth, deepening relationships, and increasing opportunities to share the good news of Jesus in our community. Again and again, we have seen signs of God’s grace at work among us, not only in numbers, but in lives being changed, faith being stirred, and people being drawn closer to Jesus.

A Year of Growth

One of the most encouraging aspects of this year has been the continued growth of our congregation. Since 2023, when the church was gathering around 20 people, we are now regularly seeing gatherings in the 60s and 70s. This growth has brought a greater sense of life and energy to our Sunday worship, alongside an increasing diversity of ages, backgrounds, and experiences.

Alongside this, we have seen people come to faith and others begin exploring the Christian faith more seriously. While many of these moments happen quietly and personally, they remain central to the life of the church and are a reminder of why we do what we do. As Jesus says in Luke 19:10:

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

We want others to experience the life-transforming power of knowing and following Jesus Christ. Making Christ known must remain at the heart of everything we do at St Francis.

Children, Young People, and Schools

Jesus said: “Let the little children come to me.” Matthew 19:14

Our engagement with local schools has continued to be a significant part of our ministry. Through our partnerships with Elaine, Bligh, and Cedar Primary Schools, we have had regular opportunities to lead assemblies, run clubs, and deliver seasonal events.

The Easter and Christmas round robin sessions have enabled large numbers of children to hear and engage with the gospel of Jesus in an interactive, fun, and accessible way. At Christmas, outside our regular services and events, we welcomed over 700 young people into our church. The Easter and Christmas school programmes at St Francis are now a staple part of our ministry at these special times of year.

Our after-school clubs have also continued to develop. Crafty Fingers has provided a consistent space for children to explore Bible stories through creative activities, songs, and discussion. Three years ago, many of these children did not know who Jesus was. Now, they understand that He is the Son of God, they have heard the gospel message, and some would say that they have faith in Him.

These sessions are helping to build confidence in young people to ask questions about faith, engage with Scripture, and make an informed decision to believe. This is slow, faithful, seed-sowing ministry, and we thank God for the fruit we are beginning to see.

Café Francis and Community Life

Café Francis remains a key part of our weekly rhythm and community presence, reminding us of the call in Hebrews 13:2:

“Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers.”

Meeting regularly at the church, Café Francis provides a welcoming space for conversation, connection, and support. It continues to serve not just as a café, but as a place where relationships are built and where people experience care and belonging.

We are seeing much spiritual fruit from this ministry. Through positive relationships, prayerful conversations, and a boldness to share our faith when prompted by the Holy Spirit, we have seen people come closer to faith and some come to faith in Jesus. This continues to remind us that hospitality is not simply about serving tea and coffee, but about creating space where people can encounter the love of Christ.

Serving and Shared Ministry

Throughout the year, we have also seen strong involvement from volunteers across many areas of church life, for which I am deeply thankful. As Colossians 3:23 reminds us:

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

From hospitality and children’s work to practical support, administration, worship, welcome, prayer, outreach, and behind-the-scenes service, the willingness of people to serve has been vital. This shared ownership is an encouraging sign of a healthy and growing church.

But please remember, you are serving Christ, not the vicar!

Every act of service matters. The things that are seen and the things that are unseen all contribute to the mission and ministry of St Francis. I am deeply grateful to everyone who gives their time, energy, gifts, and prayers to the life of the church.

God’s Provision and Generosity

Financially, we remain thankful for God’s provision through the generosity of the church family, alongside support received for specific areas of ministry. This has enabled us to continue developing our work, particularly in outreach and engagement with children and young people.

In 2025, we received over £500,000 in grant funding for various areas of church life and mission, including the new floor and support for the next five years of ministry at St Francis. This is a remarkable provision, and we do not take it lightly.

God has been generous to us, and in response we have sought to be generous to others. As a PCC, we have committed to bless St Andrew’s in Ghana by supporting the building of a vicarage for their

ministry. This is a powerful reminder that we are part of the wider body of Christ, and that generosity should flow through us as well as to us.

Looking Ahead

This year also marked an important transition for Giovanni our Estates Evangelist, who moved on in September to begin ordination training. We give thanks to God for his faithful ministry among us over the past five years and for the many ways he has served the church, our schools, and the wider community with joy, humility, and dedication. Giovanni has been a real blessing to St Francis, particularly through his heart for the Gospel and his pioneering ways, and we will miss him and Louisa greatly. At the same time, we rejoice in God’s calling upon his life and pray that the Lord will continue to guide, strengthen, and use him in this next season of ministry. As 1 Thessalonians 1:2 reminds us, “We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers.”

As we look ahead, our focus remains clear: to continue making Christ known in Strood, to deepen discipleship among those who are part of the church, and to build on the relationships we have with our local community.

We hold on to the promise of Galatians 6:9:

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

There is still much to do. As the church grows, we will need to continue growing in discipleship, leadership, service, prayer, and generosity. We will need to keep asking how we can faithfully share the good news of Jesus with children, young people, families, older people, and all those God brings across our path.

Making Christ known must always be our motivation for the things we do at St Francis.

We give thanks for what God has done and look forward with faith to what He will continue to do, confident that:

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

Finally, I want to express my sincere thanks to our churchwarden, PCC, and all who serve so faithfully week in and week out. Your commitment, prayer, and hard work are at the heart of all that is happening here.

Churchwarden’s report on the fabric, goods and ornaments of the church

Maintenance and repair work at St Francis has continued throughout the year, and we remain grateful for Adam’s practical DIY skills and for the ongoing support of the Community Payback team.

During 2025, a number of improvements were made across the church site. These included the installation of new LED lighting in the hall and toilets, repainting the hall, fitting a new heater in the ladies’ toilet, and carrying out repairs to the steps from the car park. The new church floor has also made a significant difference and looks excellent. Thank you to everyone who supported the fundraising that made this possible.

There were some matters to resolve in relation to the faculty application for the floor and baptismal fonts. It became clear that the moveable font had previously been installed without a faculty, which has now been addressed. The faculty granted covered the new floor only, and we are currently awaiting approval for the removal of the concrete font. A separate faculty has been approved for the permanent introduction of a baptismal font and pool on the dais.

Thanks must also go to Susan, Jenny, and the flower team, who continue to make the church look beautiful and welcoming. Their use of mainly silk flowers has helped reduce costs while ensuring that the arrangements last longer. Their creativity and commitment are greatly appreciated. I would also like to record our sincere thanks to Jenny White for her beautiful ecclesiastical sewing and liturgical textile work. Jenny has a remarkable God-given gift, and the care, skill, and creativity she brings to this ministry greatly enrich the worship and visual life of St Francis. Her work is a wonderful example of using the talents God has given for His glory and for the blessing of the church.

As many will know, 2025 was a particularly difficult year for me personally. I am deeply grateful for the kindness, support, prayers, encouragement, and practical help I received from so many people within the church family. Whether through covering duties, checking in, offering a listening ear, or simply being present, that support made a real difference.

I would especially like to thank Adam for his constant support and practical help, and Carole and Roger for covering my Sunday duties. I am also very grateful to everyone who stepped in to cover my absence in other areas. St Francis depends on the commitment and generosity of its volunteers, and I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone who gives their time, energy, and gifts to help make the church a loving, welcoming, and active place of worship and community.

We are always looking for new volunteers, and anyone who would like to help in any capacity is encouraged to speak to me, Adam, or a member of the leadership team. There are many ways to serve, whether by welcoming people on Sunday mornings, helping with refreshments after the service, or supporting one of the many ministries and activities that take place during the week. The more people who share in the work, the lighter the load becomes for everyone.

Finally, I had previously agreed with Adam that I would serve as churchwarden while he was Priestin-Charge. Given the challenges of this past year, I had not originally intended to stand again. However, with the possibility of sharing the role, I have agreed to stand for election once more.

It remains a real honour to serve as churchwarden in such a loving and supportive church family.

PCC Secretary Report

The PCC met six times during 2025.

Over the past year, the role of Church Secretary has continued alongside the role of Churchwarden. While every effort has been made to fulfil both responsibilities, the demands of holding the two roles together have meant that the secretarial work has, at times, been more difficult to maintain consistently.

I am grateful to those who have assisted during the year, particularly those who have stepped in to take minutes when needed and those who have offered practical support in other ways. Their help has been greatly appreciated.

It is hoped that, following this APCM, a dedicated Church Secretary will be appointed, enabling this important role to be carried out with greater focus and consistency.

Much of the wider work and activity of the church has already been covered in the Churchwarden’s Report. However, it is important to record sincere thanks to all those who contribute to the life and running of St Francis. This includes the clergy, PCC members, ministry leaders, and the many volunteers who give their time, energy, and commitment so generously.

Every role, whether visible or behind the scenes, makes a valuable contribution to the life of the church. Thank you to all who continue to serve faithfully.

As always, we continue to welcome more volunteers. Anyone who feels they may be able to contribute in any way is encouraged to speak to Adam, a churchwarden, or a member of the PCC. The more people who share in the work, the lighter the load becomes for everyone.

The Electoral Roll

The Electoral Roll was renewed this year and currently stands at 55 members. During the renewal process, 3 names were removed and 11 names were added.

Strood Deanery Synod Report 2025

Deanery Synod met in February 2025. The first part of the meeting was an open meeting for Deanery Synod representatives (clergy and lay), deanery Clergy with PTO, Churchwardens, Licensed Lay Ministers to welcome Bishop Jonathan who was visiting each deanery to give a presentation on Change, Serve, Grow, outlining and supporting the Diocesan Vision and Strategy.

Bishop Jonathan said seeking first the Kingdom of God, we are called together by God to change, serve and grow with compassion, courage, and creativity.

Within this overall vision, key objectives are to grow missional churches, with missional leaders and missional disciples, that are:

• Creating a safe and healthy culture for all

• Growing younger and more diverse

• Growing spiritually and numerically

• Impacting their communities

• Releasing financial resources for mission

• Planting and growing new missional churches

With four workstreams to help focus the work to grow God's kingdom:

• Missional Leadership Development

• Missional Development Places

• Children, Young People and Families

• Revitalising fragile churches

All these are seen through the lens of growing safe and healthy cultures, because to truly seek God's kingdom, then we must reflect values of righteousness, peace, wholeness, and fullness of life for all.

Discussion followed the presentation, and Bishop Jonathan took questions. Bishop Jonathan thanked representatives for their attendance and for their various ministries in their parishes and deanery.

At the end of May, a 6.5-mile sponsored walk along the se and through the greenways of Hoo, was organised for the Deanery by the Parish Walk Team from Frindsbury with Upnor and Chattenden and hosted by St Werburgh, Hoo; sponsorship monies were donated to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.

At the end of September, Nicholas Cooper resigned as Vicar of Frindsbury with Upnor and Chattenden and Area Dean of Strood.

Safeguarding Report

The safeguarding landscape in the Church of England continues to evolve in response to historical safeguarding issues that were not dealt with appropriately. However, this is not to say that we are now in a place where we can rest on our laurels, as this would mean that we have not learnt anything from what has gone on in the past. Therefore, safeguarding must remain at the heart of everything we do.

I would say, with a degree of conviction, that at St Francis Strood, our community and church activities are filtered through a safeguarding lens. This means that volunteers are safely recruited, and we seek to ensure that there are at least two people supporting events that involve children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

That said, the church is growing, and we are seeing new people come into church most Sundays. Some are coming as family groups, with either young children or teenagers. As we know, safeguarding is about keeping children, young people, and vulnerable adults safe. The world that many young people now inhabit involves technology, which means safeguarding issues extend into the world of social media, online communication, and computer games. Therefore, the safeguarding

skills we learnt five years ago are not always adequate for keeping up with the new ways in which children and young people can be exploited. Consequently, timely renewal of safeguarding training is an essential part of ensuring that we do not repeat the safeguarding mistakes of the past. Safeguarding training is tailored to the different roles and responsibilities held within the church. PCC members, church officers, volunteers, and those involved in ministry with children, young people, and vulnerable adults are expected to be up to date with the safeguarding training appropriate to their role. For others, undertaking the Basic Awareness training helps ensure that concerns can be identified safely and escalated appropriately.

Domestic Abuse Awareness training is also an important part of safeguarding. This course equips participants to engage thoughtfully and proactively with the issue of domestic abuse and those affected by it. It develops a greater understanding of what domestic abuse is, who it affects, and its impact on individuals, children, the wider family, and the community. Those in licensed, authorised, safeguarding, pastoral, and PCC roles are among those expected or encouraged to complete this training.

Electronic Renewal/Application System

Thirtyone:eight have introduced a DBS three-year renewal reminder service. Thirtyone:eight will email the current Lead Recruiter around three months before any previously submitted applications are approaching the three-year anniversary of being sent to the DBS. The email makes clear that, if the person is still active in their role, a renewal will need to be completed. This helps to ensure that DBS checks are renewed in a timely fashion.

Parish Safeguarding Dashboard

The Diocese has subscribed to the Parish Safeguarding Dashboard, an online tool designed to make it easier for churches to manage their safeguarding requirements.

It is free for parishes to register, update, and receive action plans on demand. The Dashboard also enables the Diocesan Safeguarding Team and senior clergy to see whether each parish is up to date with its safeguarding administration and to offer support where needed.

St Francis has successfully signed up to the Parish Safeguarding Dashboard, and we are in the process of ensuring that we have all the relevant documents and information added to the Dashboard.

DBS Checks for 2025

Five people were safely recruited in 2025, although four of those were renewals. The DBS checks are coming through quite quickly compared to the delays experienced in 2023.

Conclusion

The safe recruitment of all volunteers and paid workers continues to be a top priority at St Francis. Parishioners are also aware of the need to protect the vulnerable people in our midst. One matter of concern was shared in the past year, which indicates that people are familiar with the process of reporting concerns. The noticeboard at the back of the church displays the contact details of the Parish Safeguarding Officer and the Vicar.

Estates Evangelist Report

Messy Church: Messy Church, which I concluded leading July 2025, has now entered its fifth year as a thriving and valued community initiative. With Easter and Christmas gatherings averaging around 50 people, and monthly sessions drawing 20–30 attendees, its impact is well established. To ensure - its long term sustainability, nurturing strong relationships with local schools and the Parish remains vital. This final year offers a natural moment to reflect on its future, particularly by investing in leadership development and equipping new missional leaders to carry the work forward.

Café Francis: Café Francis, which I stepped back from leading and overseeing in August 2025, continues to grow as a valued weekly gathering for our Parish every Tuesday. When possible, the earlier 8:30am opening—supported by a parent from the local community—has enabled families from Elaine Primary School to join us. Under Debbie’s leadership, the café offers a warm, welcoming space with homemade food and a steady weekly attendance of around 30 people. It also serves as an important point of connection with the wider community, enabling local service networks in Medway to engage meaningfully with residents at St Francis Church. Café Francis is now well established in the community, partnering with a range of local groups, council initiatives, and charities supported by the Church.

Funky Fridays – Parents and carers toddler group: This much-loved community activity in South Strood, which I stepped back from supporting and overseeing in August 2025, continues to draw new families each year, fostering connection and participation. Throughout 2025, attendance remained strong, averaging around 30 adults and children, reinforcing its popularity at St Francis. Under Debbie’s leadership—supported by her husband Mick and a dedicated volunteer, Lynn—the programme continues to flourish. By bringing people together, it not only strengthens local bonds - but also encourages involvement in wider parish activities, including after school clubs, fairs, Alpha courses, baptisms, and confirmations

Holiday Activities & Food Programme (HAF): As in previous years, I organised the Easter holiday clubs for children aged 5–11 , concluding my involvement after delivering the programme at Easter 2025. With support from Medway Council and our partnership with Medway GO, we were able to offer this much-needed provision to families—both those entitled to free school meals and those connected to St Francis. Attendance remained steady at 20–25 children, supported by around 10 committed volunteers, and the clubs continued to strengthen community engagement.

With the five-year funding period now complete, the future of this initiative will depend on a dedicated missional leader who can plan, organise, manage volunteers, and seek new funding. It is - important to discern wisely whether St Francis can continue offering this much needed support to our community.

Local Schools Connections: St Francis Church continues to foster strong and lasting relationships with our three local schools, creating meaningful opportunities for community engagement. Until I concluded my involvement in July 2025, I supported this growing partnership, which has become a vital part of our Parish’s outreach.

Elaine Primary School remains a key partner, particularly through our community café, now held in the Church on Wednesdays from 8:30–10:00 am. This provides a welcoming space for parents to gather, take part in workshops, and engage in conversations around school and family life. We also continue to offer an after-school club, with Gardening Club in the spring and Bible Club throughout the rest of the year, giving children enriching experiences in a supportive environment.

• Each year, we welcome Elaine Primary School for Easter and Christmas round robin activities, where children explore the Church, learn the stories behind these celebrations, and take part in a nativity presentation. St Francis also hosts Cedar Children’s Academy for Christingle services and seasonal visits, while Bligh Primary School joins us for similar celebrations, including their own - Christingle service. This year, we were also able to establish a new after school club at Bligh Primary School.

Across Easter and Christmas, we had the privilege of welcoming around 3,000 children from these three schools, demonstrating the significant role St Francis plays in the Parish and the deep impact of these partnerships.

Looking ahead, sustaining this level of engagement will require dedicated leadership. To ensure continuity and support the priest-in-charge, it would be beneficial to appoint a Youth, Children, and Families Worker who can coordinate activities, manage volunteers, and seek funding. Careful discernment is needed to secure the future of this vital ministry, ensuring that our work with local schools continues to flourish for years to come, even during periods without clergy presence.

Outreaching the community of Strood – Seasonal Events: St Francis continues to offer a variety of vibrant community events, which I supported until concluding my involvement in July 2025. Our Christmas Market brought together more than 40 local groups, each contributing seasonal products and activities that created a warm and festive atmosphere. The event was enriched by live entertainment, including a joyful performance from the Bligh Primary School choir.

With over 600 families visiting St Francis throughout the day, the market was a resounding success—strengthening community connections, welcoming new families, and raising valuable funds for the Church. Although I was not part of the organising team, I attended the event and witnessed firsthand its positive impact on the wider community.

Recruitment of volunteers: As St Francis continues to expand its missional work within the Strood community, the need for dedicated missional leaders has become increasingly important. Until I concluded my involvement in July 2025, I supported the development of our growing engagement with local schools, which is now firmly established. To sustain and build on this momentum, recruiting and equipping missional leaders and volunteers is essential. Their support will ensure the - continued success of our initiatives across the Parish and strengthen our long term impact within the community.

Alpha Course: I was involved in supporting this initiative until 2025. Whether a meal or a shared breakfast, this activity helps build relationships and strengthen connections among families connected to St Francis.

This ongoing participation highlights the lasting impact of the Alpha Course in nurturing relationships that extend well beyond the sessions themselves.

Bible Study: Our weekly Bible Study held every Wednesday from 10:30–11:30 am , continues to be an important space for discipleship, especially for those new to faith. Until I concluded my involvement in July 2025, I supported this ministry as it grew into a consistent and valued part of church life.

Led by Michael Brown , the group welcomes an average of 10 participants each week, including members of St Francis, parents connected to our local schools, and individuals who first engaged with us through the Alpha Course. Through shared reflection and discussion, the Bible Study nurtures spiritual growth, deepens understanding of Scripture, and strengthens fellowship within the Parish.

Café Francis

Café Francis has continued to be an important and much-valued ministry within the life of St Francis and the wider Strood community. It remains a welcoming place where people can come for friendship, conversation, refreshments, practical support, and a sense of belonging.

Throughout the year, Café Francis has provided regular opportunities to connect with local people in a relaxed and accessible setting. Alongside the weekly café, we have welcomed helpful community-focused input from the Fire Brigade and Specsavers, and hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning, which raised in the region of £830 in total. These activities have helped strengthen our links with local services and provide meaningful support to those who attend.

In March, Café Francis also hosted a fraud awareness talk arranged through Kent Police. Sophie delivered an excellent presentation, and the feedback was very positive. It was a helpful and informative session, particularly in raising awareness around scams, safety, and protecting vulnerable people.

Café Francis is not simply about serving tea and coffee. It is part of our missional vision as a church: to be present in the community, to build genuine relationships, and to create a welcoming steppingstone where people can encounter the love of God in a natural and unpressured way. Through this ministry, people have become more connected to the church community, moved into deeper conversations about life, faith, and God, and, wonderfully, some have come to faith in Jesus.The café continues to show the importance of hospitality as mission. A warm welcome, a listening ear, and a safe place to belong can open the door to deeper conversations and lasting relationships. Café Francis is therefore both a practical community asset and a significant part of our church’s calling to make Christ known in Strood.

We are deeply thankful to everyone who helps make Café Francis possible, especially those who give their time so generously on Tuesday mornings, by baking, preparing food, serving refreshments, setting up, welcoming guests, offering conversation, or praying for the ministry. The café environment is greatly enriched by this selfless contribution.

As Hebrews 13:2 reminds us, “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” Through these simple acts of service, Café Francis continues to be a vital place where people are seen, valued, welcomed, and gently pointed towards the love of Christ.

– Funky Fridays Toddler Group

Funky Fridays has continued to thrive throughout 2025, regularly welcoming around 25 children, along with their parents and carers.

The introduction of the SumUp card payment machine has been very positively received, making it easier for families to contribute. Cash donations have also continued, enabling the group to provide snacks, replace resources, and keep a small reserve for emergency purchases when needed.

During the year, the group was further enhanced through the purchase of a sensory dark tent and fidget toys. These have provided a calm space where children can take time out, relax, and regulate when needed. Art and craft activities remain especially popular, meaning materials are regularly replenished, along with items for playdough-making, cereal play, and other tuff tray activities.

Funky Fridays also supported the Children in Need appeal by donating that week’s contributions.

We were delighted to welcome Lynne Sparks to the team during the year, and her contribution has been a real blessing.

Funky Fridays continues to be a valued and much-loved part of our church and wider community. It is also an important stepping-stone ministry, helping St Francis to build relationships with young families across Strood in a welcoming, accessible, and practical way. Through the group, we are able to offer support, friendship, and a positive first connection with church life for children, parents, and carers. We are proud of all that has been achieved and look forward to seeing Funky Fridays continue to grow, flourish, and serve the community.

During 2025 I conlnued my support for Christ the King, Princes Park by leading and preaching for them on the third and finh Sundays of each month. This arrangement ended aner Christmas in order to give me more capacity to support St Francis as we prepare to enter a period of change with new CYP colleagues arriving and a change of Incumbent.

I also provided a small level of support for St Gabriel’s Church, King’s Hill with them being in vacancy.

Looking forward in 2026, I expect to be supporlng our neighbours at All Saints, Frindsbury during their period of vacancy in addilon to my ministry here at St Francis.

Mission Outreach Report

2025 was a very positive year for Missional Outreach at St Francis. The school fees for 10 Sponsored Children were duly paid. These were for 8 Children at St Peter and St Paul Primary School in Kondoa, Tanzania. Also, Amosi in Tanzania, through Compassion and Genesis in Mexico also through Compassion.

It was a real joy and privilege to welcome Conjesta Benjamin (headteacher at St Peter and St Paul school) to St Francis Church, during her recent visit to Kent. A wonderful example of the connections and relationships that grow and develop through Missional Outreach. I have been invited to visit Tanzania later in the year to attend the Children's graduation ceremony. Watch this space.

The Ghana Vicarage building project is continuing apace. £8,000 of the £10,000 target has already been raised and paid out and currently the roof of the vicarage is being built. This is a great encouragement and evidence of God's wonderful provision.

Thank you to everyone who has supported these endeavours, either by buying plants, cards or bookmarks or by donating directly. Also, many thanks to all those who donate plants or containers. Thanks also go to Mick and his quiz nights that also raise funds for various outreach events. May this year be similarly blessed and productive.

Kids Ministry

The pattern of discipleship continued through the year to develop our children and young people’s understanding of their own faith journey and their place in the body of Christ.

Through the apprentice work, the children developed their understanding of their gifts alongside the adults and in fact set a great example to adults in how they used their gifts to serve.

The creation of SFS Youth enabled those who attended to deepen in faith through this shared and focused intentional discipleship, and it was a joy to share part of this journey with them. We were also able to involve an increased number of young people in the Diocesan Youth Council events, supporting their connection to the wider picture of church.

In the Summer 2025 myself and Giovanni moved church due to the Ordinand training that Giovanni stepped into. This meant that decisions had to be made to reduce some of the children and youth ministry, to pause and to continue to pray for God’s provision in terms of leadership, but also in terms of vision.

I am confident of this, that He who began the good work in them will carry it on to completion!

Since September 2025 (where I began to participate in the Kid’s ministry), the amazing, exponential growth in the engagement of young people within St Francis has been most apparent! Our kid’s ministry prioritises a fun, creative environment in which aids their journey of learning and growth in

our faith. Tools such as animations, children-friendly bibles and craft-led learning allow for key foundations of our faith to be discussed, remembered and valued.

In our weekly sessions held during Sunday service, there is a particular theme or topic chosen by our team in which centres the conversation for the session – becoming tangible in a craft. The craft is the key aspect of our sessions … it not only excites and engages the children but also enables wider conversations to be had between children, parents / guardians and peers within the congregation and the community. We have seen a surge in returning children, who not only have flourished in themselves but also towards each other. A beautiful rapport has been made between the attendees, allowing them to have their own form of fellowship – even at their young ages.

In a practical sense, the Kids ministry has seen a range of improvements that has aided our journey even further and supported the continuous progress we have seen. The investment in shelving units for our equipment such as pens, paper and glue sticks has enabled key accessibility for both the team and the children. Furthermore, the instalment of display boards and exemplar crafts allow for the children’s work to be a consistent reminder of the learning being had each week. Also, the expansion of help within the kid’s ministry has only made this work possible! The extended team of Carole, Jade, Jenna and Jolie, have all tirelessly helped make this ministry what it is today. The kid’s ministry is one of many examples of God’s work in the St Francis congregation and the wider Strood Community. We pray to see its continued progress in the passion of serving young people.

Psalm 78:4 – ‘We will not hide them from their children, but tell the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.’

Parish Administrator’s Report

I was appointed as Parish Administrator in September 2025, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the parish of St. Francis Church, Strood. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Vicar, churchwarden, and members of the congregation for the warm welcome and support I have received since taking up this post.

My role has involved the day-to-day administration of the parish office, including managing enquiries, coordinating the booking of church and hall facilities, and supporting the vicar in the organisation of services and parish events. I have also worked to ensure that parish records, correspondence, and administrative systems are maintained in a clear and orderly manner.

Although my time in post has been relatively short, I have already gained a strong appreciation for the rhythm of worship and the wide range activities that take place within St. Francis Church. It has been especially encouraging to see the continued use of our facilities by both the congregation and the wider Strood community, reflecting the church’s role as a place of welcome, fellowship, and outreach.

In carrying out my duties, I am mindful of the words of 1 Corinthians 14:40: “ But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way .” This continues to guide my approach to the administrative responsibilities entrusted to me.

Gift Aid

Gift Aid has not been claimed for a number of years and unfortunately was not submitted in 2025. However various claims have now been made and the amount received will be included in 2026's accounts.

St Francis joined the Parish Giving Scheme at the end of 2024. This is a free, Church of Englandapproved service designed to help churches manage regular, planned donations securely and whereby Gift Aid is calculated and processed automatically. A number of regular donors signed up to the scheme in 2025.
