TRUSTEES' REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST MARCH 2025
The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31st March 2025. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The objectives of the organisation, as set out in its governing document are:
To promote equality and diversity for public benefit, in particular the elimination of Islamophobia, by means of but not exclusively:
-
educating and raising awareness among individuals and organisations in education settings of Islamophobia and its impact on victims and society at large;
-
promoting activities to foster understanding between people from diverse backgrounds in education settings, particularly between Muslims and non-Muslims by countering misconceptions of Islam and Muslims
Public benefit
The trustees have consulted the Charity Commission's comprehensive guidance on public benefit while evaluating our goals and objectives and charting our future activities and have ensured that all of the charity's expenses are directed towards fulfilling its public benefit obligations.
Vision
At Educate Against Islamophobia, our vision is to lead the way in building educational spaces that actively challenge Islamophobia.
Mission
We empower students and educators across the UK to eradicate Islamophobia in education. Through informative resources, dynamic workshops and impactful professional development, we equip schools with the knowledge, tools and confidence to cultivate learning environments where Muslim identities are safeguarded and celebrated.
EAI's work is grounded in academic research and best practice from both anti-racism and religious literacy fields. All resources and workshops have been devised by our dedicated Education Team, who bring extensive experience in lesson planning and educational content development.
We pride ourselves on crafting teaching and learning resources that are curriculum-aligned and span from Early Years to secondary school education. These materials are rooted in values such as respect, equality, and justice and address a number of themes such as human rights, anti-bullying, and media literacy.
Our workshops and professional learning sessions aim to equip beneficiaries with a heightened awareness of Islamophobia, its manifestations, prevalence and causes, as well as practical strategies on how to combat the issue in real-life contexts. These sessions also enable participants to explore common misconceptions around Islam and Muslims through reflection and dialogue.
EAI is also committed to establishing partnerships with stakeholders within the field of education, such as local authorities, school improvement consortia and education unions. Such partnerships are crucial in expanding our reach and impact across the UK.

Educate Against Islamophobia in Bolton Project
We were delighted to partner with the Sunnyside and Bolton CVS to offer free Islamophobia awareness workshops for students and Islamophobia awareness training for professionals working with children and young people across the borough of Bolton.
The sessions reached a diverse audience, including teachers, children and young people, council officers and youth workers across Bolton. Participants learned about Islamophobia, its harmful effects, and how to create safer and more inclusive spaces in schools and community settings. Teachers and community practitioners indicated a strong desire for more resources and support to continue promoting inclusivity and understanding. The high demand for the sessions resulted in an expansion of the project's scope, from an initial target of 10 sessions to a total of 20 by October 2024. A total of 954 participants attended the workshops/CPD sessions, with ongoing bookings indicating continued interest and demand for our work across the region.
Project impact
-
100% of beneficiaries would recommend our workshop/CPD to other schools/professionals.
-
Our workshops/CPD sessions received an average rating of 9.9 (out of a possible 10.
-
Schools and community groups have reported a noticeable shift in attitudes towards Islamophobia, with more open discussions around the topic and stronger commitments to tackling discrimination.
Project testimonials:
"Excellent overview of the systems in the UK which perpetuate Islamophobia and the many ways Islamophobia can manifest in UK life and most importantly the practical skills we as educators of all kinds can implement to combat Islamophobia. Really love the book, many of our schools ask for stories on school and nursery readiness and understanding the value of diversity as well so I think it's a title we will certainly be including in our schools project loans!"
Milly Moran-Hetherington, EPA, Bolton Library
"It was great to have this (CPD) delivered in person to listen to other people's experiences."
Daisy Marshall, Residential Support Worker, Bolton Council
"Really informative and well delivered messages to highlight Islamophobia. Will definitely look at the resources and look forward to adding the storybook (Amna & Amy) to our classrooms."
Emma Hargreaves, Assistant Principal, St Paul's CE Primary School
"The session was very informative and opened my eyes to Islamophobia in the UK and in schools. The session was delivered brilliantly, and I feel more educated on the causes of Islamophobia in the UK and my school settings."
Tom Alldred, Year 6 Teacher, St Paul's CE Primary School

TRUSTEES' REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST MARCH 2025
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position
Against a backdrop of continued reliance on grant funding, the charity focused during the year on the delivery and completion of restricted projects in line with funder requirements. For the year ended 31 March 2025, total income amounted to £27,594, with total expenditure of £62,139. The resulting deficit of £34,545 reflects the planned utilisation of restricted funds brought forward from the previous period to complete the Schools Project and to deliver activity under the Outreach Project.
At the year end, total funds stood at £3,191, all of which were unrestricted. Restricted funds relating to the Schools Project were fully expended during the year. Cash balances at 31 March 2025 amounted to £47,416, of which £42,469 related to restricted grant income received in advance and held in accordance with grant conditions and reporting requirements.
The trustees consider the charity’s financial position at the year end to be satisfactory, taking into account the nature of restricted project funding and the timing of expenditure. The charity remains reliant on grant funding to deliver its charitable activities and continues to manage resources prudently in line with its objectives and funding agreements.
Reserves policy
The trustees recognise the importance of maintaining adequate reserves to ensure the long-term sustainability and resilience of the organization. Our reserves policy is designed to strike a balance between fulfilling our current charitable objectives and safeguarding the charity's future in the face of financial uncertainties.
The trustees have assessed the charity's financial needs and have determined that a minimum figure of £6,000 is essential to maintain operational stability.
Going concern
The trustees have reviewed future projections, which they feel adequately reflect the current uncertain economic environment. After considering all relevant uncertainties, the Governing Body has a reasonable expectation that there will be sufficient cash resources generated from its operations to enable the charitable company to continue in operation for at least 12 months from the signing date of these financial statements. Thus, they continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparing the annual financial statements.
FUTURE PLANS
Following the success of the EAI in Bolton Project, we will continue to seek similar opportunities to expand our reach, engage new and existing beneficiaries, and deliver measurable outcomes nationwide. Such projects will:
-
Build children's understanding of Islamophobia and its impact.
-
Increase teachers' confidence in tackling Islamophobia in schools.
-
Encourage empathy, critical thinking and respectful dialogue.
-
Challenge stereotypes and misinformation about Islam and Muslims.
-
Improve safety and belonging for Muslim pupils.
-
Create lasting partnerships with schools and community settings.
In addition to our outreach work, we will continue to support schools and educators through the production of high-quality teaching and learning materials that will enable them confidently tackle Islamophobia in their classrooms and school communities.
