The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation governed by its constitution and the Charities Act 2011. The trustees are responsible for the overall management and direction of the charity.

Trustees are appointed in accordance with the charity’s constitution. The board meets as required to oversee the charity’s activities and finances. Trustees are aware of their responsibilities under charity law and have acted in accordance with the Charity Commission’s guidance.

## **Objects and activities**

## **Objects**

The objects of the charity are, for the public benefit, the relief of sickness and the preservation and protection of good health, particularly but not exclusively, in Nepal by:

- a. Providing resources and training for healthcare staff in rural hospitals and pre-hospital facilities to manage emergency medical events within resource-limited settings; and

3

**Rural Emergency Support Services Foundation**

- b. Providing equipment to assist in the emergency medical events including, but not limited to, automated external defibrillators, airway management devices and emergency medication.

## **Activities undertaken**

During the year, the trustees have undertaken the following activities to further these objects:

- Organised small-scale fundraising activities, including endurance events and bake sales, to raise funds in support of the charity’s work.

- Contacted hospitals in the West Midlands to explore opportunities for the donation of surplus medical equipment.

- Began developing a community of healthcare professionals across the UK who are willing to contribute skills, knowledge and support to furthering the aims of the charity.

## **Public benefit statement**

The trustees have had due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit. The trustees believe that the charity’s activities during the year provided public benefit by supporting the provision of emergency medical equipment and resources intended to improve the capacity of healthcare services in rural areas of Nepal, thereby contributing to improved patient outcomes in resource-limited settings.

## **Achievements and performance**

During the year, the charity focused on maintaining its activities at a small scale while continuing to pursue its charitable purposes.

Key achievements during the year included:

- Collecting donations of medical equipment from local hospitals, including cannulae, airway devices and basic first aid supplies.

- Raising sufficient funds to purchase an automated external defibrillator for future deployment.

- Establishing an initial network of healthcare professionals willing to volunteer time, expertise and support the charity’s activities.

The trustees are satisfied that, despite limited income, the charity made meaningful progress towards its objectives and operated effectively inline with its governing document.

## **Financial review**

The charity had a total income of less than £1,000 during the year. Income was derived primarily from donations and proceeds from small-scale fundraising activities.

Expenditure during the year related mainly to basic running and administrative costs associated with maintaining the charity.

At the end of the year, the charity held modest reserves. The trustees consider this level of reserves to be appropriate given the charity’s current size, limited financial commitments and current level of activity.

## **Reserves policy**

The trustees aim to maintain a small reserve sufficient to meet short-term running costs and to ensure the charity can continue to operate should income fluctuate.

## **Plans for future periods**

In the coming year, the trustees plan to:

- Purchase an automated external defibrillator.

- Arrange for the shipment of stored medical equipment to Tamakoshi Hospital in Nepal.

- Seek small-scale funding opportunities and continue to hold fundraising activities.

- Review the charity’s activities regularly to ensure they remain achievable within available resources.

## **Statement of trustees’ responsibilities**

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees’ Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards.

Approved by the trustees and signed on their behalf:
