## _**Object and aims:**_

Burdett Foundation (BF) is a community charity organisation, set up by the local community, for the local community. Services to develop, empower and support residents within Burdett Estate, London Borough of Tower Hamlets and Greater London.

Originally starting off from a community football club, our charities community projects aim to develop, empower, and inspire the local community, our motto is “More than just a football club”. Our projects include providing community outreach, football, youth, education, women’s empowerment, tackling poverty, community development and environmental sustainability. By participating fully in society, our service users will improve the quality of life, employability, social equity, self-determination for themselves, their loved ones and their peers. We use our local initiative, connection, circle of life model, through football to transform our local communities. Our core projects have won many awards including the Tower Hamlets Community Champions Award for our crucial services to the local community and the Inner London Football League Cup 2024.

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is one of the fastest growing boroughs in the UK as well as being one of the most deprived boroughs in London. Burdett Estate is one of the most densely populated estates in the UK with high levels of poverty, deprivation, unemployment, health issues, crime, and inequalities. Our work is to level the playing field, from winning on the pitch as well and winning for our communities and loved ones. Most of our service users are predominantly Black, Asian, and Mixed Heritage backgrounds; many of them predominantly Bangladeshi origin. Our core projects include Burdett Football Club, Burdett Women’s Initiative and Burdett Centre.

## _**Strategic Partnership**_

We act as a strategic organisation working with partners across the sector as well as statutory providers to enable members of the community to engage with service providers and to enable those providers to adapt services to better meet the needs of the community. We provide ideas and input into discussions and consultations on policy matters. Staff and trustees attend a range of internal and external meetings to help set the direction of the organisation and to share best practice and ideas. We work in consultation and partnership with the local community and statutory and voluntary agencies in developing our programmes, projects and service and responding to emerging need and new initiatives. We are widely involved in collaborative and partnership work and developed further opportunities by being actively involved in new initiatives locally. Partnership working benefits our users as it identifies information needs and gaps in provision, prevents duplication of services and enables accurate referral and to and from partnership organisations. It enables access to funding streams and increases our effectiveness and resilience through joint provision of services and the exchange of good practice, policies and information.

## _**Sporting Pathway**_

Burdett Foundation uses sports to engage with disadvantaged communities and tackling community issues by entry level engagement sessions with the support and opportunity to progress to elite level and beyond. We have engaged with over 700+ beneficiaries, which take advantage of opportunities to simply participate or to compete in leagues, professional environments and other footballing competitions. We are more than just a football club, we are a community, a lifeline and a launchpad for young people to become champions in sport and in life. Through our Circle of Life model, children join our academies from the age of 8, training consistently, competing across London and learning discipline, resilience and teamwork. As they grow into our Youth pathway (16–21), they are then progressed into the men’s senior team and after 35, onto the Veterans team where they continue to complete at a high level within the London Leagues. They are guided by elite coaches and mentors who have competed and won at the highest levels helping them strive for excellence on the pitch and beyond. Our mission goes far deeper than football. They don’t just win games, they lead by example, uplift others, and inspire change in their communities.
