Mental Health World Cup

Report of the trustees covering the period 31/08/2024 to 30/08/2025

Charity no: 1205965

Objectives and Activities

Our main purpose continues to be promoting and protecting the physical and mental health of persons at risk of suicide and mental health conditions by making grants to mental health and suicide prevention charities.

Over the course of the year, our activities collectively raised close to £300,000 in total charitable income through the Mental Health World Cup events held at QPR and Watford. The majority of this amount was raised directly through our charity’s fundraising efforts, which consisted of corporate sponsorships and public fundraising via the givengain.com platform, with the remainder donated directly by supporters to our chosen beneficiary charities. For the public benefit, over 3,000 people were in attendance either participating or spectating across the events.

We confirm that the trustees have regarded the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

Achievements and Performance

The main achievements of the charity were raising close to £300,000 for mental health. The 832 participants took part in over 250 matches across three days, and we had over 2,000 people spectating. Through the promotion of the event, the physical benefits of being involved and the money raised, we feel we’ve delivered on our purpose for the public benefit.

Financial Review

Total receipts on unrestricted funds were £228,505 for the year. The generation of funds was predominantly through the sale of Sponsorship packages (51%), Donations (28%), Team Entries (12%), with the remainder coming from ticket sales and auctions (9%) on the day of the event.

The generation of receipts throughout the year are key to help facilitate the running of the events, with costs this year amounting to (28%) of unrestricted funds.

The majority of net proceeds are divided and donated to our chosen charities once the events have concluded and all receipts and payments have been processed.

This year we are pleased to report that (68%) of unrestricted funds were donated to our chosen charities.

Reserves Policy

It is our policy to maintain a balance on unrestricted funds (if possible) of £1,500 at the year end. This helps to cover the small operational expenses of the charity.

The balance of £10,696 held on unrestricted funds at the close of the financial year exceeded our target by £9,196. However, as the number of events continue to grow each year, with a further two stadiums confirming their participation for 2026, it is imperative we hold a sensible balance which will allow us to begin preparations for next year’s events.
