## **Achievements and Performance**

|Summary of the main<br>achievements of the charity,<br>identifying the difference the<br>charity’s work has made to<br>the circumstances of its<br>beneficiaries and any wider<br>benefits to society as a<br>whole.|Para 1.20|**We have now secured an extension of**<br>**the lease on the garden until September**<br>**2029, on the same terms as before (rent**<br>**£300 per annum).**<br>**Although we are still working one day**<br>**per week, our average weekly volunteer**<br>**attendance over the year has been 8 per**<br>**week, compared to 6 last year. Overall,**<br>**we have welcomed 20 different**<br>**volunteers from the local community,**<br>**including volunteer groups from**<br>**Cooperation Hull.**<br>**The summer drought made for difficult**<br>**growing conditions, but with care**<br>**losses in the newly-planted Forest**<br>**Garden were <10% and these have been**<br>**made up from grafting of donated**<br>**rootstocks. Purchase of a shredder and**<br>**two more compost bins has increased**<br>**our capacity to produce mulch and**<br>**compost on site. A floral strip was**<br>**planted in November adjacent to the**<br>**main vegetable growing area to improve**<br>**biological control of insect pests.**<br>**In December we purchased a Barn Owl**<br>**nest box, now installed, to improve non-**<br>**toxic control of the rodents which have**<br>**caused considerable losses this year.**|





**We have also recently secured funding for a compost toilet to help improve volunteer facilities. Produce from the site has either been shared amongst the community volunteers, donated to local food banks, or sold to help build an income stream for the running expenses of the garden. We are now members of the Hull Food Exchange Platform, which we hope in future will streamline the use of surplus produce. Our Facebook page currently has 93 followers. The volunteers who come to the weekly sessions have expressed that the gardening activities support both their mental and physical wellbeing, and provide a welcome space for them, whilst fostering a sense of community, and pride in what they are achieving.**
