|Summary of the main<br>achievements of the charity,<br>identifying the difference the<br>charity’s work has made to<br>the circumstances of its<br>beneficiaries and any wider<br>benefits to society as a<br>whole.|Para 1.20|**We have made significant developments**<br>**in our first year of operation towards**<br>**our vision for Rise Walled Garden as a**<br>**new community garden in the UK.**<br>**We have developed a dedicated team of**<br>**six volunteers from the local community**<br>**who have given over 1000 hours of their**<br>**time in 12 months to develop the site.**<br>**We have been able to maintain our first**<br>**areas of fruit and vegetable growing but**<br>**also to enhance the site by planting a**<br>**new forest garden with fruit trees and**<br>**nitrogen-fixing shrub species,as well as**<br>**re-covering the worn-out polytunnel.**<br>**We have also started to make some**<br>**improvements to the site such as**<br>**improving storage facilitates for**<br>**produce and seeds.**<br>**Produce from the site has either been**<br>**shared amongst the community**<br>**volunteers, donated to local food banks**<br>**(eg. Cottingham food bank) or sold to**<br>**help build an income stream for the**<br>**running expenses of the garden.**|





**The volunteers who come to the weekly sessions have expressed that the gardening activities support both their mental and physical wellbeing, and provide a welcome space for them, whilst fostering a sense of community, and pride in what they are achieving.**
