## **Governance and management**
The charity is operated under the rules of its CIO – Foundation registered 23 November 2023.
Potential trustees are approached when they show a particular invested interest in the charity’s development and ongoing growth. They are then voted in at a trustee meeting by the standing trustees.
## **Objectives and activities**
To promote humane behaviour towards animals by providing appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for cats which are in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage and to educate the public in matters pertaining to animal welfare in general and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among cats.
## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit**
- Rehoming cats after a thorough home checking process;
- Trap, neuter and rehabilitation of stray and feral cats;
- The safeguarding of older cats and providing them with long term foster care and necessary vet treatment;
- Microchip Training & Welfare Awareness Event.

The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit, 'Charities and Public Benefit'.

## **Summary of the main achievements during the period**
- Rehomed 274 cats within the financial year and 591 during the charities live date;
- Microchipped over 300 cats in addition to those within our rescue environment;
- Fundraising continues to be a massive driver to ensure we are in a strong position to not only care for the cats that come and go, but also to ensure we have all the necessary funds to care for those with us long term;
- Continued delivery of Rescue & Welfare Awareness presentations to local community groups such as the CVS and Coalfields.

## **The charity’s policy on reserves**
As a general rule, our intention has always been to hold between 3-6 months’ worth of estimated costs. This currently would suggest maintaining a balance between £6,000-£13,000.
## **Financial review**
Over the course of the last 12 months we have hosted 22 key fundraising events. Public support has been gratefully received, with several members pledging to raise funds at marathon events.
Our charity status has also been made more visible on JustGiving and Paypal sites, ensuring that people can select our charity to receive donations.
Our companion scheme has increased in volume with 14 permanent feline residents, who will remain under the rescues umbrella, attracting further costs.

## **Meow and Furever**
Continued fundraising efforts & maintaining reserves are crucial to ensure that the long-term treatment of our eldest feline residents can be met with ongoing vet bills, whilst allowing the routine rescue work to operate unhindered, including for the strays that undertake TNR and often arrive with several other medical requirements.
## **Financial risks**
Our main financial risk is associated with the increasing number of older cats we take in. Older cats, in general, have longer ongoing health risks and often require frequent veterinary visits, ongoing medication as well as monthly regular food, litter, etc. Focusing on vet costs is also crucial to ensure we continue to receive the best care possible for our cats but at the most competitive rates possible.

## **Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Meow and Furever for the year ended 5 April 2026**
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Meow and Furever (the charity) for the year ended 5 April 2026.
## **Responsibilities and basis of report**
As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner’s statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

The transfer from the General fund to the Oldies companion scheme fund is to cover the deficit on this activity.
The specific purposes for which the funds are to be applied are as follows: Oldies companion scheme – support towards our companion scheme as well as to help towards purchasing an outdoor catio space.
