Financial review

Establishing our future security through our fundraising has been a key driver in our start-up year. We have hosted 28 events, all aimed at building up a reserve for the release of our Oldies for Oldies scheme. This is compounded by the need for grantors to see us raising matched levels of funding to ensure we are eligible to apply.

We continue to maintain a healthy balance on our account running regular fundraisers and proactively working hard on rehoming cats that come into rescue.

The charity’s policy on reserves

Setting a reserves policy during our first financial year has been difficult without knowing what expenses we would face. As a general rule, our intention has always been to hold between 3-6 months’ worth of estimated costs. This currently would suggest maintaining a balance between £6,000-£13,000.

Financial risks

Our main financial risk is associated with the increasing number of older cats we take in. Older cats, in general, have longer ongoing health risks and often require frequent veterinary visits, ongoing medication as well as monthly regular food, litter, etc. Focusing on vet costs is also crucial to ensure we continue to receive the best care possible for our cats but at the most competitive rates possible.
