Charity status
On 23 November 2023 the club became a registered charity, number 1205862. The comrnittee
members at the time became trustees of the charitv.

2.1 Income
Income from membership substriptions
Membership subscriptions received in the nature of è gift are recognised in Oonations and Legacies.
Subscriptions are recognised evenly over the period of membership.
Legacies
Legacies are included in the SOFA when receipt is probable, that is, when there has been grant of
probate, the executors have established that there are sufficient assets in the estate and any
conditions attached to the legacy are either within the control of the charity or have been met.
Tax re¢laims on donations and gifts
Gift Aid receivable is included in income when there is a valid declaration from the donor. Any Gift Aid
amount recovered on a donation is considered to be part of that gift and is treated a5 an addition to
the same fund as the initial donation unless the donor has specified otherwise.
2.2 Expenditure and lizbilitie5

3bilities are recognised where it is more likely than not that there is a legal or constructive obligation
comrnitting the charity to pay out resources and the amount of the obligation can be rnea5ured with
reasonable certaintv.
Grants payable
Where there are no conditions attaching to the grant that enables the donor charity to realistically
avoid the commitment, a liability for the full funding oblig3tion must be recognised.
Grants are given where the application matches the founding objectives of the charity to prornote,
encourage and co-ordinate the scientific study of ornithology in all its branches in the Bristol area.
Deferred income
Receipts in respect of club trips taking place after the year end are carried forward as deferred income.
Sub5cription5 for existing member5 are for the calendar year. For mernbers joining since Janaury 2024,
the subscription runs for 12 months from the date of joining. All subscriptions are recognised as
deferred income for the period after the year end.
Creditors
The charity ha5 creditors which are measured at settlement amount.
2.3 Assets
Tangible fixed assets for use by charity
These are capitalised if they can be used for more than one year, and cost at least £30. They are valued
3t cost. Depreciation is charged at 20% on a str3ight line basis.
