## **St Helier Charitable Foundation** 

## **Purpose** 

## **For the public benefit, to advance such charitable purposes (according to the law of England and Wales) for the inhabitants of the St Helier Estate and surrounding area as the trustees see fit from time to time.** 

SHCF works both in and around the St Helier Estate and across LB Sutton bringing information and help to residents to improve their standard of living and alleviate poverty. 

Our activities are mainly free, as the areas we work in have a high proportion of low income and vulnerable residents. 

## **Activities** 

## **Festival** 

SHCF has run an annual festival on the St Helier Estate where along with entertainment there are stalls, organisations and services which bring information and advice to residents. 

Activities such as a free afternoon tea for older residents is provided along with advisors on health and finance. 

A stage and arena for local groups and individuals to showcase their talents. 

Stalls included small local charities, NHS, fire brigade, Sutton Council, police, local arts and crafts as well as sports and leisure. 

The festival is funded through a mixture of donations and grants. 

## **Christmas Market** 

We have held Christmas markets, with a free Santa and presents for local children. Along with this there are information stalls and local crafts. 

Local shops and businesses provide gifts and support for this event. 

## **Easter Event** 



At Easter we hold an Easter egg hunt for children, which is free and we are grateful for donations from local shops to facilitate this. As part of this event, we have craft and information stalls. 

## **Well-being and information days** 

Through NHS grants we have run a variety of Well-being days in different parts of the borough. This has brought together information stalls from NHS, charities, services and local churches. 

As part of this we ran winter warmer sessions for older people with a hot meal and information talks on health matters. We also ran a similar one for young parents. 

## **Community Engagement** 

In partnership with Carshalton and Wallington local history group we have worked on a Heritage Lottery Funded project (Fight for Freedom), collecting World War two memories from older residents. The project also has an artistic element where local people have come together to produce a play and concert based on the stories uncovered. 

## **Summary** 

During the period of this report, we have engaged with around 5000 residents and put on 2 festival, 2 Easter events, 2 Christmas markets and 6 other community events. Alongside this we have engaged with 250 residents through the Fight for Freedom project. 

## **Fundraising** 

Much of our work and projects are funded through grants. This has included a portion of the HLF grant of £28220, local authority grants, Awards for All grant and NHS grants. 

Local shops and businesses sponsor individual activities such as the inflatables for the children at the festival. Shops and businesses have donation Easter eggs, Christmas presents and tombola prizes. 

We have a small income from individual donations and from general fundraising activities.
