The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present  their report with the financial statements of the charity for the period 15 November 2023 to 30 November 2024. The trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities' issued in March 2005.

The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes a limited company, limited by guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006. 

For the public benefit, to relieve the needs of people and their families in the UK who are experience or have experienced domestic abuse, primarily through a) providing or assisting in the provision of furniture, essential items, goods and services; b) mental health counselling and support; c) signposting to qualified professionals specialising in domestic abuse; d) educating the public and raising awareness about domestic abuse.

## **Recruitment and appointment of new trustees** 

New trustees are appointed by resolution of the existing trustees. When considering the recruitment of new trustees, the trustees take into account the skills and experiences required by the charity and seek to ensure that the trustee body as a whole contains sustainable development, business, investment and charitable expertise.

November 2024 marked our first anniversary as The Angels Foundation UK, a registered charity. This year has been transformative as we transitioned from a Community Interest Company (CIC) to a charity, formalising our mission, vision, and strategy to better serve survivors of domestic abuse and their families.

The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.

## **Objectives and aims** 

The Angels Foundation UK aims to break the cycle of domestic abuse for survivors and future generations by addressing the challenges they face post-separation. We provide practical and emotional support, including essential household items, trauma-informed counselling, and community engagement initiatives.

## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES** 

## **Significant activities** 

The principal aim of the charity is to provide or assist in the provision of furniture, essential items, goods and services. Provide mental health counselling and support. Signposting to qualified professionals specialising in domestic abuse and educating the public and raising awareness about domestic abuse. 

## Key Activities 

Back to Life Project: Providing survivors with essential furniture, appliances, and flooring to support their transition to a safe and stable home. 

Angels Counselling & Therapy Services: Free trauma-informed counselling sessions for domestic abuse survivors. 

Angels Walk & Talks: Monthly community walks promoting social support and awareness. 

Signposting Services: Directing survivors to specialist agencies for further support. 

## Achievements & Performance 

## Impact Summary 

Over 400 survivors and their families supported through the Back to Life Project since 2020, with none returning to their perpetrators. 

86 survivors assisted in our first year as a charity with essential home furnishings. 

42 women received free trauma-informed counselling between November 2023 and September 2024. 

An average of five referrals per week received for support services. 

Community outreach: Participation in events such as Buckfest and Hemingford Fireworks, reaching over 8,000 people. 

## Client & Partner Feedback 

Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVAs) and beneficiaries have praised our work for breaking the cycle of abuse and improving survivors' quality of life 

## **Public benefit** 

The trustees have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity's aims and objectives and in planning future activities.

## **ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE** 

A review of the achievements during the year against each of the objectives set out in the previous section 

a)providing or assisting in the provision of furniture, essential items, goods and services 

The charity was able to provide numerous families with furniture/white goods costing around £20,000. 

b) mental health counselling and support 

The charity was able to provide numerous families with counselling throughout the year. 

c) signposting to qualified professionals specialising in domestic abuse 

The charity helped a number of individuals receive support from specialists in domestic abuse support. 

d) educating the public and raising awareness about domestic abuse. 

The charity campaigned to raise the awareness of domestic abuse and the help that is available through advertising. 

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW** 

## **Reserves policy** 

The trustees have agreed to try and hold/have available a minimum of three months resereves. As of the end of the reporting period, the charity is in alignment with this policy. The total unrestricted reserves at the year end amounted to £42,250. 

Our strategy includes building financial reserves to ensure service continuity and risk mitigation. 

## **Funds in deficit** 

The charity had no deficit at the end of the year and does not anticipate future deficits. 

## **Principal funding sources** 

The charity has maintained a balanced financial position, with income sourced from: 

Grants and funding from trusts and foundations. 

Corporate and individual donations. 

Fundraising events. 

In-kind donations of furniture and household goods. 

While our financial health remains stable, our reserves are currently small, and a key priority for 2025-2027 is to increase reserves for sustainable growth.

The accounts that have been produced are the charity's first set of statutory accounts. The charity managed to finish the year in a positive financial position, with good visibility of ongoing income and significantly  more positive outlook. 

## Income & Expenditure 

Our financial health remains stable, our reserves are currently small, and a key priority for 2025-2027 is to increase reserves for sustainable growth.

Our strategy includes building financial reserves to ensure service continuity and risk mitigation. 

## Fundraising & Sustainability 

Efforts are underway to secure long-term strategic funding, develop new income streams, and establish a self-sustaining upcycling social enterprise 

## **FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS** 

The charity's primary objective for the year 2024/25 is to obtain sufficient funding to continue to be able to provide the support needed by those suffering domestic abuse. 

Future Plans (2025-2027 Strategy) 

To deliver our mission, we have outlined five key strategic aims: 

- 1) Expand service delivery to support more survivors across Cambridgeshire. 

- 2) Invest in our team and volunteers to enhance service quality and sustainability. 

- 3) Achieve steady and sustainable growth by developing robust funding streams. 

- Secure new premises to house our operations, expand the upcycling enterprise, and create a 

- 4) community hub. 

- 5) Enhance external communications to increase awareness and demonstrate impact.

I report on the accounts of the company for the period 15 November 2023 to 30 November 2024, which are set out on pages seven to twelve. 

## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

As the charity's trustees (and also the directors for the purposes of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006. 

Having satisfied myself that the charity is not subject to audit under company law and is eligible for independant examination, I have examined your charity's accounts as required under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act'). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act. 

My role is to state whether any material matters have come to my attention giving me cause to believe: 

1. that accounting records were not kept as required by section 386 of the Companies Act 2006; or 

2. that the accounts do not accord with those records; or 

3. that the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the Companies Act 2006 and with the methods and principles of the Charities Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland; or 

4. that there is further information needed for a proper understanding of the accounts.

The charitable company is entitled to exemption from audit under Section 479A of the Companies Act 2006 relating to subsidiary charitable companies for the period ended 30 November 2024. 

The members have not required the company to obtain an audit of its financial statements for the period ended 30 November 2024 in accordance with Section 476 of the Companies Act 2006. 

## The trustees acknowledge their responsibilities for 

- (a) ensuring that the charitable company keeps accounting records that comply with Sections 386 and 387 of the Companies Act 2006 and 

- (b) preparing financial statements which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company as at the end of each financial year and of its surplus or deficit for each financial year in accordance with the requirements of Sections 394 and 395 and which otherwise comply with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 relating to financial statements, so far as applicable to the charitable company. 

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the special provisions of Part 15 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to charitable small companies and with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (effective January 2015).

## **1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES** 

## **Basis of preparing the financial statements** 

The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard 102 and with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) "Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)", and the Companies Act 2006. The presentational currency of the financial statements is Pound Sterling (£). 

## **Accounting convention** 

The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention, and in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (effective April 2008), the Companies Act 2006 and the requirements of the Statement of Recommended Practice, Accounting and Reporting  by Charities. 

## **Incoming resources** 

All incoming resources are included on the Statement of Financial Activities when the charity is legally entitled to the income and the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy. 

## **Resources expended** 

Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. 

Grants offered subject to conditions which have not been met at the year end date are noted as a commitment but not accrued as expenditure. 

## **Taxation** 

The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities. 

## **Fund accounting** 

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees. 

Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
