The activities benefited members of the
Filipino community in Leeds and
surrounding areas, including Bradford,
Harrogate, and Goole. They provided
opportunities for young people and adults
alike to learn and perform traditional
Filipino dances, offering a vital outlet for
connection, artistic expression, cultural
pride, and well-being, especially for
younger generations born in the UK who
may feel distant from their roots.
These initiatives not only enhanced artistic
skills but also created opportunities for
volunteering and mentoring, particularly for

performing artists from Leeds and
surrounding areas, aged between 14 and
their 50s. Four volunteers also contributed
their expertise as choreographers and
dance instructors, enriching the quality of
the sessions.
As part of the programme, participants
created traditional costumes and props to
complement their performances, deepening
their connection to Filipino artistry and
craftsmanship.
All 30 artists became members of the
Yorkshire Filipino Group Dance Troupe,
touring across the country to showcase
their routines at two major Filipino cultural
festivals held in London and Cheshire East
in July.
The programme culminated in a
collaboration with a charity organisation on
the Isle of Wight in August, where the
troupe took part in the historic Ryde
Carnival and proudly earned 1st Prize in
the Illuminated Procession category, a
remarkable achievement that underscores
the growing recognition of our cultural work
