Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to the
circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a whole.
Para 1.20 The first meeting of the registered CIO
[13/11/23] addressed the changes that the
Charity Commission had required and
considered the change in position from the
initial point of application. The trustees noted
the new requirements for the charity’s
operation, the responsibilities of trustees, and
the reporting period of 18 months. In
accordance with this, the initial period of
service for Mrs Helen Leaning was extended
to 18 months from the previously agreed 12.
Changes in circumstances of the trustees and
the loss of the previous base of operations
which had served for 10 years in Hadfield
required a re-evaluation of the charity’s
operations. It was agreed that the
administrative headquarters would be moved
and details were updated on the Charity
Commission website. Attempts were made in
the following months to find alternative venues
and continue the charity’s work in the North
West of England. At the meeting of 21/12/23 it
was decided that due to a lack of available
new spaces and new trustees, the base of
operations should be moved to the
administrative headquarters in West Wales
and the charity placed into hibernation mode
until suitable spaces could be made available.
To continue the charity’s work during
hibernation, some of the opening balance of
funds was allocated to maintaining a website
for the following purposes: 1.To direct people
to other Buddhist organisations who share the
charity’s aims. 2. To maintain an online
presence and contacts for those who had
previously been involved with the charity. 3.To
provide regular updates on developments
towards establishing a new base of operations
in West Wales.
The remaining balance was sent as direct
donations to three Buddhist charities. The
charity’s only other assets (approx. £50 of
books, a Tibetan singing bowl and bells) were
placed in storage in the care of the Chair of
Trustees until a suitable space for activities to
resume becomes available.
The board agreed to meet every 3 months to
assess when the hibernation period would
end. At the meeting on 15/3/24 it was decided
to change the charity’s bank account due to
ongoing difficulties changing the registered
address with Lloyds Bank. Further meetings to
discuss the charity’s status in hibernation were
held on 20/6/24, 30/9/23 and 13/1/25. The
final meeting of the financial period was held

on 15/4/25 when the provisional financial accounts and annual report were reviewed and approved.
