## FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 AUGUST 2025 

The trustees present their annual report and financial statements for the year ended 31 August 2025. 

The trustees present their report and accounts for the year ended 31st August 2026 which have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (the FRSSE) (effective 1 January 2015), applicable accounting standards and the Charities Act 2011.The trustees have prepared the accounts on the receipts and payments basis. 

## **Public Benefit** 

The trustees have had due regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit reporting in deciding what activities the charity should undertake. The remainder of this report illustrates the activities undertaken to support the public benefit requirement. 

## **Structure and Organisation** 

## **Organisation** 

Pet Angels Wearside is a registered charity (Registered 26th October 2023), which operates according to its constitution which was adopted 5th December 2024. The trustees, who meet regularly to consider the progress of the charity and to consider its future direction and activities, manage the charity. 

## **Trustee Appointments** 

Trustees are appointed annually at the Annual General Meeting from members present and eligible to vote. New trustees are provided with support to enable them to understand and undertake their duties. 

## **Volunteer Support** 

The charity is reliant on the support of its volunteers to achieve its objects; the work of volunteers is invaluable. 

## **Objectives and Activities Charitable Objects** 

The charity has the following objectives: 

1. To relieve poverty and financial hardship of pet owners in Sunderland and the surrounding area who are unable to feed domestic animals they are responsible for by the provision of food for dogs, cats and small domestic animals and to liaise with other organisations to ensure those in need have access to resources such as neutering, micro chipping etc. 

2. To relieve people identified in the course of the charity’s work to be in need by reason of youth, age, disability, financial hardship, mental or physical health, addiction or domestic violence by liaising with other organisations and the relevant statutory agencies to ensure that such persons have access to resources providing the correct support for their situation, and supporting them in doing so. 



## **Achievements and Performance Chairperson’s Statement and Review of the Period** 

## **Fundraising Report:** 

We have used the past 12 months to continue fundraising events and ideas that we have seen be successful and have also provided social events and opportunities for our community. We have worked hard to fundraise and raise vital funds that support us in continuing our work while bringing awareness within our local community to the effects of poverty and the benefits of pets remaining at home with their families. Building rapport with our community has further enabled us to ensure no pet is left hungry. 

Our fundraising activities include: 

## **Social Media Campaigns:** 

We have built a wonderful community across social media. We have pinned a post to the top of our pages explaining how people may donate to our organisation along with our wish-list link. When we are running low on stock, we are able to post this on social media. 

**Impact:** We have managed to engage a wide online audience and not only reach many new supporters but also those in need of support. 

**Outcome** : Members of the public are not only able to support us with donations but are also able to watch the impact their donations have made. 

## **Website:** 

We recently revamped our website to make it easier to navigate and allow people to learn about our charity and the work we do. We updated our website which now has a donation button. 

**Impact** : Our website not only includes the ability to donate to our organisation but also information about us, locations where you can donate pet food and locations you can collect pet food. 

**Outcome** : A website has made our charity look more professional and encourages more people to support us. It also encourages more businesses to provide us the opportunity to add a donation basket in their premises. 

## **Community Dog Shows:** 

We continued to host community dog shows as they have proven to be a successful fundraising opportunity but also engage the community. Businesses can pay £10 for a stall and members of the public pay £2 entry fee per dog show class. 

**Impact** : We have been able to bring the community together while raising vital funds and highlighting the importance of animal welfare and alleviating poverty. 

**Outcome:** We have not only provided social events, raised funds but have built working relationships with other organisations and businesses that helps support our community. 

## **Supermarket Bag Packing:** 

We trialled a supermarket bag packing event to raise funds and this proved to be successful. 



**Impact:** The community could not only donate cash or pet food but they could also meet the team, learn about our work and follow our social media to keep updated. 

**Outcome:** Quick and low-cost fundraising. 

**Overall results:** Funds raised to allow us to continue purchasing pet food, supplies and supporting members of the community that struggle to feed their pets. Community engagement which increased awareness of our food bank, gained new supporters and also provided opportunities for many members of the community to access social settings to help alleviate social isolation or loneliness. 

**Case Studies** : _All names have been removed due to data protection._ 

Female, 20s: 

We were contacted by a social prescriber who was working with a female victim of domestic violence. She has recently fled her abuser and was left with very little. She had a cat, stating “She is all I have left”. Our team ensured she was supported by a female trustee on a 1 to 1 basis for her own comfort and safety while another female trustee waited outside. 

We provided long-term support for a number of months to ensure she was able to access all services for full support, sort out her financial and housing circumstances and to ensure she was safe long-term without worrying about her pet needing food or the need to rehome her cat. 

Male, 30s: 

We supported a gentleman in his 30s who suffered with his mental health. He had been forced, due to mental health, to leave his job however wasn’t aware of how to access the benefit system or work out which benefits he was entitled to. This left him financially insecure. We liaised with other organisations that were not only able to support him in regards to his mental health but provide him support in accessing benefits and therapy. We took over the responsibility of providing food for his dog until he was able to access benefits and become more financially secure.

## **Trustee Notes:** 

As trustees we would first like to express my gratitude to the people in our community who support and encourage our work – without you it wouldn’t be possible! I am extremely proud to be part of not only a team that works tirelessly but also to be part of a community that strives to take care of it’s own people at times when it proves difficult for them to do so themselves. 

We feel we have used the previous year to learn from our mistakes, improve and continue to grow our charity and create links that ensure we can support as many people as possible. 

We are   confident that moving into the next year we will be able to continue progressing, expanding our charity work to ensure we support as many people as possible.
