Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 ‘Hackney Schools Sing’ drew together
children across Hackney, many of whom
previously had never seen or worked with
an orchestra before. Many of them reported
to have grown in confidence; were excited
to have the opportunity to perform in a
large concert venue; enjoyed working on a
project larger than the scope of a single
music department could offer; were
inspired by working with professional
musicians; and got involved in further
musical activities off the back of it. School
choirs reported to have grown in size
through the project. 22% of the audience
also reported not to have seen a
professional orchestra before; this
projected boosted the cultural capital of the
wider community as well as the children
directly involved. The young people
involved developed in their musicianship
through singing in 4-part harmony, which
some had not done before. The event was
also a helpful transition event for the
primary school Year 6 cohort involved, as
they could make links with their future
secondary schools.
‘East London School Orchestras Festival’
built on the success of the previous year
and reached almost 500 pupils from
schools across both Hackney and Tower
Hamlets. As well as the side-by-side
experience of performing in concert with
professional musicians, pupils received in-
school workshops over a period of months,
building stronger connections with our
musicians. Pupils were also involved in co-
composing a new piece. Pupils were
reported to have grown in confidence, to
have become more committed to their
schools’ ensembles, and schools also
reported that their ensembles had grown as
a result of participation in the project. This
project also worked with pupils across
primary and secondary schools and music
services, resulting in peer inspiration as
well as professional inspiration. We hope
the involvement of these different groups
will create bridges for students to make the
next step in their musical journeys, and to
address some of the drop in engagement
currently seen when pupils move from
primary to secondary schools. We were

particularly proud to receive reports of positive impacts on neurodivergent pupils, who felt better able to engage with music in the setting we provided, and to have made the event accessible to those with physical disabilities. The project mutually benefitted the professional musicians we worked with; it provided an early-career composer with the commission for a unique collaboration and gave local professionals the chance to get involved in mentoring young people.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of Wyatt Sinfonia (Charitable Incorporated Organisation no. 1205420)

I report on the accounts of Wyatt Sinfonia for the financial period 26 October 2023 to 31 March 2025 , which have been prepared on the receipts and payments basis in accordance with section 133 of the Charities Act 2011 and the applicable regulations.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts and for ensuring that they are properly maintained and comply with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011.

It is my responsibility to examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 and to state whether any matters have come to my attention in connection with that examination.

Basis of independent examiner’s report

My examination has been carried out in accordance with the Charity Commission’s Directions and Guidance (CC32) . An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the trustees about any such matters.

The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no audit opinion is given.

Independent examiner’s statement

In the course of my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which give me cause to believe that:

  1. accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act 2011; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

  3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements to prepare accounts on a receipts and payments basis.

I have no concerns and have no other matters to report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts.

Accounts prepared on 27/08/2025

These accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis as per the requirements of the Charity Commission for a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) of this size. This is Wyatt Sinfonia’s first set of published accounts and so the financial period reported on, 26/10/23-31/03/25, exceeds one calendar year. To allow comparison with future accounts, interim calculations at 31/03/24 have been provided.

During this period, Wyatt Sinfonia delivered two projects which received restricted funding – Hackney Schools Sing and East London School Orchestra Festival (ELSOF). These, along with the charity’s unrestricted fund, are shown in the receipt and payments account.

During the whole financial period, Wyatt Sinfonia had a total income of £32,218.46, of which £2292.25 was unrestricted, £9,777.91 was restricted to Hackney Schools Sing and £20,148.30 was restricted to ELSOF. Wyatt Sinfonia is grateful to the grant bodies listed below for their support.

During the same period, Wyatt Sinfonia had a total expenditure of £33,147.81, of which £2041.60 was unrestricted, £9,777.91 was restricted to Hackney Schools Sing and £21,328.30 was restricted to ELSOF.

During this period, £410.48 was transferred from unrestricted funds to contribute to costs for Hackney School Sing, and £1368.58 was transferred from unrestricted funds to contribute towards ELSOF.

At the close of the financial period, Wyatt Sinfonia was due outstanding credit of £1180. £900 of this was from grant instalments contingent on end-of-project reporting due after the year-end. A further £280 was due to the charity from a partner organisation’s contribution. These account for the £1180 shortfall between payments and receipts in the ELSOF fund – this expected to be received in Summer 2025.

To secure the cash flow, the charity received an interest-free cash loan of £230 from a trustee, which was outstanding at the close of the period. This loan will be repaid when the above credit due to Wyatt Sinfonia received.

At the end of the financial period, the net assets were £92.73 only, all of which was unrestricted and held in current accounts with Co-Op Bank. Wyatt Sinfonia’s reserves policy requires the charity to hold no more than three months’ equivalent of running costs.

Payments to related parties:

During the period, a small number of payments were made to trustees and related parties to reimburse trustee and volunteer expenses evidenced with receipts. These totalled £117.34 and the maximum reimbursed to any individual was £47.54. An interest-free cash loan was made from a trustee, as detailed above.
