Trustees’ Annual Report and Financial
Statement
Charity Name: MRMINACADEMY
Charity Number: 1205405
Reporting Period: 25 October 2023 to 05 April 2025
1. Objectives and Activities
The objectives of the charity are to provide essential humanitarian support, educational opportunities, and medical care to orphaned and vulnerable children in Uganda.
During this first reporting period, the charity focused on ensuring the daily survival and wellbeing of children at the Light of Victory orphanage in Uganda, Kampala. This included the provision of food, clothing, medical care, and the payment of school fees.
2. Achievements and Performance
In this 17-month period, the charity successfully managed £24,000 in charitable contributions to support its mission. Key achievements include:
-
Nutrition: Providing consistent daily meals and clean water for the children.
-
Education: Funding school fees and supplies for the children for multiple academic terms.
-
Healthcare: Covering the costs of medicine and medical check-ups.
-
Maintenance: Assisting with the monthly running costs and rent of the orphanage facility.
3. Financial Review
As a newly established CIO, the charity is in the process of opening a dedicated UK charity bank account. During this period, the charity’s finances were managed as follows:
-
International Support: A major donor based in Morocco provided approximately £20,000 in direct support. These funds were transferred directly to the caretaker in Uganda for core maintenance and food costs.
-
UK Fundraising: Trustees and supporters in the UK raised £4,000 , which was primarily used for school fees and medical emergencies.
-
Transfer Methods: Because a charity bank account was not yet active, UK funds were transferred via Remitly (a Money Service Business) by the Trustees.
4. Risk Management and Monitoring
The Trustees recognize the risks of sending funds overseas. To ensure all funds reach the intended beneficiaries, the following controls are in place:
-
Photographic Evidence: The caretaker provides photos of all bulk food purchases and supplies.
-
Manual Records: Handwritten receipts and logs are maintained by the caretaker and sent to the Trustees digitally.
-
Regular Verification: Trustees maintain frequent contact with the orphanage via video calls to verify the children's welfare and the use of resources.
