## **4. Structure, Governance, and Management** 

The Family Works is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), registered with the Charity Commission. It operates under the oversight of a Board of Trustees responsible for governance, compliance, and strategic direction. 

The Board meets regularly monthly to review performance, safeguarding, financial oversight, and organisational risk. 

Day-to-day operations are led by the CEO, supported by a management structure that ensures safe and effective service delivery.

- Safeguarding 

- Reserves 

- Complaints

## **5. Objectives and Activities** 

The Family Works exists to relieve the needs of children and families in crisis across South Yorkshire. 

Our work focuses on families experiencing multiple and overlapping challenges including trauma, poor mental health, poverty, addiction, parental conflict and social isolation. 

Our work includes: 

- 1:1 trauma support for children and young people 

- Whole-family support delivered in homes and community settings 

- Parenting programmes 

- Community coffee mornings and wellbeing activities 

- Advocacy and partnership working with services 



## **6. Achievements and Performance** 

In the past year, The Family Works has: 

- Supported 193 individuals (70 adults and 123 children and young people) 

- • Supported 48 families 

- Achieved strong engagement with families who are often disengaged from statutory services 

Outcomes include: 

- 73% improved emotional regulation (children) 

- 81% improved communication and engagement 

- 80% improved social confidence 

- 60% improved school attendance 

- 94% improved adult mental health 

- 88% improved access to benefits 

- 77% reduction in isolation 

- 84% improved support networks 

## **7. Financial Review** 

- Total income: £196,869 

- Total expenditure: £171,524 

- Net surplus: £25,345 

Income sources: 

- Grants: £161,920 

- Donations: £18,685 

- Gift Aid: £314 

- Commissioned income: £15,950 

Expenditure for the year: 

- Programme delivery costs: £156,315 

- Operational costs: £15,209 

Reserves: £43,781 

Unrestricted reserves: £23,787 

The charity holds both restricted and unrestricted funds. Restricted funds are applied to specific projects, while unrestricted funds support core costs and overall sustainability. 



The charity’s reserves at year end were £43,781. While this represents progress, reserves remain below the target level of approximately three months’ operating costs, and trustees continue to prioritise building financial resilience. 

The trustees have reviewed the charity’s financial position and consider it to be stable, with appropriate systems in place to manage financial risk. 

## **8. Risk Management** 

Key risks include financial sustainability, safeguarding, staff capacity, governance and increasing demand for services. 

## **9. Plans for the Future** 

Priorities include: 

- Supporting at least 25 children with trauma support 

- Supporting at least 20 families 

- Engaging at least 40 parents in community programmes 

## **10. Statement of Responsibilities of the Trustees** 

The Trustees confirm compliance with the Charities Act 2011. 

The trustees confirm that they have had regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.
