1. Aims and Purposes
New Footings Ministries (NFM) exists to serve vulnerable individuals and communities through Christian-based outreach, spiritual support, and practical assistance. Our mission is rooted in faith, compassion, and inclusivity, providing hope and empowerment to those experiencing hardship, crisis, or marginalisation.
2. Objectives and Activities
In 2024, NFM focused on:
-
Winter Night Shelter from mid December until early March accommodated at The Haven, Gerston Place, Paignton, Devon
-
Provided security, volunteer teams from 6 pm through to 9 am next morning
-
Hot showers, laundry service, hot meals and packed lunches provided during this period
-
Drop-in sessions offering emotional and pastoral support
-
Collaboration with agencies for housing, mental health, and recovery support
-
Supported up to 20 rough sleepers each night
These activities align with our purpose to meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
3. Safeguarding

4. Staffing
In September 2024, Maria joined the team in a part-time pastoral and outreach support role. Her three-month term strengthened our capacity and helped expand our engagement with beneficiaries.
5. Pastoral
The pastoral ministry remained a core part of our mission. In 2023/2024, the team delivered over 150 one-to-one support sessions and responded to increased requests for prayer, grief support, and emotional recovery services.
6. Relationships
We continued to deepen our partnerships with churches, local councils, charities, and service providers. These relationships enhanced our ability to offer holistic support and streamlined referral pathways for service users.
7. Volunteers – Our Sincere Thanks
We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers who gave generously of their time, skills, and compassion. Their support across kitchen prep, outreach, logistics, and admin made all the difference in 2023/2024.
8. NFM Members
Our members remained faithful in their support through giving, prayer, and participation in ministry activities. Membership remains a key source of accountability and spiritual guidance for the charity.

19. Activities Overview
In an endeavour to provide Winter Night Shelter accommodation for the most needy in our community during the coldest and darkest times of our winter, we were privileged to share The Haven building. This put an immense strain on the running of The Haven and thanks were expressed to the Management and Volunteers without whom we would not have been able to continue. There were a number of neighbours who found those we care for extremely intimidating. Although all issues were addressed with care and sensitivity, it was agreed that we would not hold a night shelter at The Haven in the future but would prayerfully seek alternative accommodation or look for different opportunities of serving
