Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

From 1/5/2024 Period start date To 30/5/2025 Period end date

Charity name: CREEKLINK HERITAGE TRAIL

Charity registration number: 1205283

Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 To advance education for the public
benefit by the establishment and
maintenance of a Creekside heritage trail
designed to enable awareness and
understanding of the 19th century
industrial history and current biodiversity
of Deptford Creek, in particular but not
exclusively, among local communities in
the London Boroughs of Greenwich and
Lewisham who by reason of their
proximity to the Deptford Creek
neighbourhood, share a common
historical legacy.
CreekLink Heritage Trail began its first full
year as a charity in May 2024 with a
commitment to raising funds for the creation
of phase 1 of the heritage trail. There were
4 trustees meetings including an AGM.
Trustees agreed phase 1 would be for the
first 4 interpretation panels to be sited on
upper and mid-Creek. Longer term the
trustees aim to create a Heritage Trail that
will run the whole 1.2 kilometre length of the
Creek, creating public awareness and
understanding of its rich and largely
forgotten 19th century industrial history and
its continuing present day biodiversity.
CreekLink identified the sites where it
intends to install the heritage panels,
backed up by a website and other outreach
activities.
Over the year CreekLink received funding
from the following: Greenwich Council’s
Neighbourhood Growth Fund; Thames
Water; RER London; Thames Tideway
Tunnel. A total of £20,075. Trustees agreed
a plan to bring project management of
phase 1 in-house, under the shared
responsibility of Chair and Secretary, who
provided their services free of charge. This
would enable all funds raised to be spent on
the design, manufacture and installation of
the first 4 panels and associated community
activities.
CreekLink trustees spent the year creating
content and initial designs for all 4 panels .
This was achieved alongside constructive
discussions with funders, and the landlords
of the four chosen information board sites. It
led to the beginning of the complicated
process of gaining the necessary legal and
planning consents for erecting the panels.
After advice and consideration trustees
agreed to commission signage specialists
Fitzpatrick Woolmer to design and
manufacture the heritage panels. An initial
payment of £4000 was made in November
2024. By end of April the initial design for
the panels was agreed, the first two panels
had planning approval from all landlords
and the council. The third panel design was
completed, but still awaiting final landlord
and planning consent. For the fourth panel
content had been drafted and installation
permission discussions were taking place
with the landlord. Copyright clearance was
obtained for all the images we planned to
use on the heritage panels.
As part of outreach CreekLink’s Chair gave
a talk on the heritage trail project to a local
history organisation in LB Lewisham.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 CreekLink's long-term aim is to raise
awareness and understanding of both
residents and visitors to, first, the Creek's
rich but ignored 19th century industrial
history; and, second, to the Creek's current
biodiversity. Our draft content for the
heritage panels was reviewed and checked
by local historians and an editor to ensure
the text was accessible and relevant to our
key audiences: the local community and
visitors to the area.
A key achievement over the year was
gaining funding for CreekLink's phase 1
plans, which will enable the first 4 heritage
panels to be completed and further develop
our plans for engaging the local community
with the trail and contributing to a better
understanding of their shared heritage.
Closer ties with the Creek Education
Trust, responsible for the Creekside
Discovery Centre were established.
CreekLink commissioned them to provide
content and photos for panels 1, 3 and 4
relating to the bio-diversity of the
contemporary Creek. We also agreed to run
joint family activity days at the Discovery
Centre to enable local families to find out
more about the Creek and the heritage trail.
February 2025 saw the Trustee looking after
web development take the first steps
towards updating the CreekLink website to
take better account of the various ongoing
developments and to provide people with
more Creek heritage photos and stories.
Each panel will have a QR code that will
provide a direct link to the website.

Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 CreekLink does not require significant
reserves as all funding is secured in
advance of each heritage panel being
committed to. However, the trustees have
