TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT AND ACCOUNTS FIFTEEN MONTH PERIOD ENDED 31[st] DECEMBER 2024

The Trustees present their Annual Report for the fifteen month period ended 31[st] December 2024.

Aims & Purposes

Originally set up in 2018 as a project of Blessed Sacrament RC Church, The Copenhagen Street Foodbank became a registered charity in October 2023 and continues to operate out of the attached church hall. We are dedicated to alleviating food poverty in Islington and the surrounding areas. We open our doors every Thursday afternoon to our clients without the need for referral. Entirely run by our staff of 50+ volunteers, our organisation relies on donations of money and food.

As well as providing food and toiletries, the Foodbank provides a wellbeing space ( a warm space in the winter months) to enable clients to socialise with refreshments as well as signposting for essential services.

Achievements and Performance

The Foodbank helps to feed nearly 200 households per week and welcomes clients from Islington and surrounding boroughs. During 2024 representatives of Islington Council and other organisations regularly attended sessions to enable clients to access essential services and funding.

Financial Review

Total income of £157,911 comprised unrestricted donations of £105,872 (including £58,198 transferred from the previous entity), £50,514 of restricted donations and unrestricted bank interest £1,624. Included in restricted donations is £1,000 for the purchase of computer hardware. A laptop and tablet were acquired during the period. Investment Donations also include £12,715 raised by members of the public through Bankuet a fund accessed for the first time in November 24 and the balance on this account at 31[st] December 24 was £8,891.

Regular donations help deliver a sustainable service and the Charity continues to develop its programme of regular private donations which raised £16,266 during the period as well as promoting donations through the Just Giving Page which raised £3,808. The Trustees would like to thank their corporate supporters who have enabled the Charity to retain a robust level of reserves.

Expenditure on goods provided to clients amounted to £61,721 and was subsidised by a number of providers such as Foodbank Aid, the Felix Project as well as local businesses and community. The Trustees would like to thank all these organisations and individuals for their support.

The net result for the year was an excess of receipts over payments of £95,924 split as follows:

Reserves Policy

As mentioned above, the cost of operating the foodbank is subsidised by donations from a number of organisation . The unsubsidised cost of running the operation is estimated to be close to £100,000 per annum and, bearing in mind the increasing number of clients who are reliant on the services of foodbanks, the Trustees aim to keep reserves at a level of approximately one year’s expenses.

Other Key Policies

The Trustees have approved the following policies during the period and have a programme of regular review in place. These include:

Safeguarding; Health and Safety; Data Protection; Fundraising and, Privacy[

Volunteers

We would like to thank all our volunteers who carry out a huge variety of roles in order to keep the Foodbank running. Our particular thanks go to Attracta Roden our operations manager and Trustee who manages the running of the foodbank and nearly fifty volunteers. We would also like to thank our partners, The Felix Group, Food Bank Aid and City Harvest who donate goods to the foodbank as well as the many local businesses and our community who support us generously.

Structure, Governance and Management

The Charity was established as a Foundation CIO where the Trustees are the only members and are responsible for making the key decisions. The Trustees meet quarterly to make strategic decisions, review the accounts and the organisations policies. Any decisions are minuted by the Chair of Trustees. Responsibility for day to day operations are delegated to the Operations Manager and most of the Trustees volunteer at the Foodbank itself.

I would like to thank all those who have supported Copenhagen Street Foodbank by volunteering or financially throughout the period. The increasing use of the service demonstrates the the level of need in our community and without that support many people would suffer hardship.

This report and accounts were approved by the Trustees on 7[th] May 2025 and signed on their behalf of the Board by Sister Anne Bruder ( Chair).
