The Jam Place CIO
Trustees’ Annual Report for the year ending 31 August 2024
The Trustees present their report for the year ended 31[st] August 2024.
Structure, Governance and Management
The Jam Place CIO was registered as a charity on 18[th] October 2024, having previously operated as The Jam Place CIC. All assets and liabilities from The Jam Place CIC were brought into The Jam Place CIO on creation.
Objectives and Activities
The Jam Place CIO is a community based charity that uses joyful and creative expression to instil confidence in and empower young people. This is carried out principally through dance and movement lessons, including for young people with Special Educational Needs.
Since April 2023, the Charity has benefited from a peppercorn rent on a building owned by Columbia Threadneedle, on a 30 day rolling lease, for which we are very grateful. No financial recognition of this has been given of this in these accounts as the Charity would not have chosen to lease an entire building if this arrangement had not been in place; previously rooms for our classes were hired on a per hour basis.
Trustees
The Trustees who served during the financial year were:
Catherine Sullivan
Rebecca Yelland
Linda Smith
Karen Deadmarsh
Achievements and performance
The year to August 2024 was our first year in Hamilton House, and our first year based in North Leatherhead (previously we operated out of Epsom). As well as expanding our dance classes, including our specialist (grant funded) SEN classes, The Jam Place CIO has built relationships with other charitable and educational organisations in the area. We hope to continue to strengthen these relationships in the coming year. We have also increased our fundraising activities, including hiring out of the building to local businesses (principally local government, and charities) and putting on our first dedicated fundraising event; a Christmas Fair in December 2023.
Our SEN classes are the only provision of their kind in the area, with families travelling up to 30 miles to attend. We work hard to subsidise these classes to enable wider participation, charging only a nominal fee to the families.
Signed on behalf of the Trustees on 4[th] May 2025
