Aims and Purposes
Mental Health Navigator CIO’s Board of Trustees has the responsibility of ensuring those who use our website are provided with quality mental health information—that which is up-to-date and backed up by evidence.
The Board of Trustees is specifically responsible for ensuring the MentNav website is easy to navigate, and that anyone experiencing or at risk of poor mental health is able to easily access information about mental health support and resources on our website.
Objectives and Activities
The Board of Trustees is committed to relieving the needs of people experiencing or at risk of poor mental health through providing a mental health signposting service to find and access mental health support and mental health resources. Our signposting service is currently our website. We aim to enable as many people as possible to find and access quality mental health support and resources through both the Mental Health Resources page of our website. In fulfillment of this charitable purpose between November 1, 2024 and October 31, 2025, we have ensured that our website is updated on a monthly basis, and have optimized the website for a simplified user experience. We have also ensured that suggestions for additions to the website adhere to our strict inclusion criteria via a thorough vetting process.
When planning our activities for the year, the Board of Trustees has considered the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit and, in particular, the specific guidance on charities for the advancement of health or the saving of lives. In particular, we try to enable people to improve or maintain their health by accessing:
Crisis support information; information about where to find support for mental health concerns in terms of community centres, self-help materials, and service providers (including psychologists and coaches); information about how to best make use of mental health support information; and information about where to learn to provide support to those experiencing mental health crises. Advocacy and outreach work.

To facilitate this work, it is important that we maintain the MentNav website and relationships with our sources of information, as well as the community we serve.
Achievements and Performance
The MentNav website
Our website is https://www.mentnav.org/. LinkedIn continues to be our primary way of communicating website changes and announcements to our users. Our website headings have been adjusted this year to remove the Providers tab and table, as this is a resource specific to the Effective Altruism community, and we aspire to be a resource to which anyone can turn. The Providers Table and the From the Effective Altruism Movement page (a collection of resources created by members of the community that first sponsored our charity’s development) were both transitioned to its own website,
https://www.eamentalhealthnavigator.com/, which was created using logos we designed and used when funded by the Effective Altruism community. This new website is now maintained by Julia Wise from the Center for Effective Altruism, and we consider it as being a sister website (and we link directly to it on our website), but no longer under our jurisdiction. We continue to adhere to the philosophy of providing evidence-based information and are of course happy to help members of any and every community in their search for mental health resources.
So, our website now consists of our About Us section, a page dedicated to vetted free or low-cost resources such as community centres and self-help materials (‘Mental Health Resources’), and a page dedicated to quickly accessible crisis support information (‘Crisis support info’), which has a quick access button visible on every page of our website. In 2024 and 2025, we also added a tab for information about how to access mental health support (‘Finding Care’) and a tab with information about how to provide support to loved ones struggling with their mental health (‘Providing Support’). These two tabs were previously subsections of our Mental Health Resources section, but have now been separated and updated.
In an effort to limit expenses while still providing the best possible user experience for our website, we decided to discontinue our Pory.io subscription, as we found that AirTable had a similar function through which we could embed our table of mental health resources on the

‘Mental Health Resources’ page as a series of interactive cards, free of charge. Furthermore, we found that directly embedding AirTable for this card format prevented links from breaking and made it easier to make adjustments to each entry when entries periodically need updating.
We also added resources such that we now have 300 vetted entries on our Mental Health Resources webpage. 199 unique users from 38 countries accessed these resources between November 1, 2024 and October 31, 2025.
Organisational Infrastructure
Our second year as a charity largely involved clarifying who we serve and setting ourselves up to serve more people. This included opening a new UK charity bank account (this time with Lloyd’s), onboarding a new trustee and saying goodbye to two trustees who stepped down, and ensuring our Data Protection policies and information were up-to-date. The two trustees who stepped down were Inga Grossmann in February 2025 and Lynette Bye in August 2025. Our new Trustee, Liam Bligh, joined the charity in February 2025.
Advocacy and Outreach Work
Our advocacy and outreach efforts between November 1, 2024 and October 31, 2025 were limited to our fundraising efforts, through which we raised £1,214 for the purposes of covering the costs associated with functioning as a CIO, maintaining our website, splitting our website so that a second website was created specifically for the Effective Altruism community and passed over to Julia Wise (who works closely with the Effective Altruism community), and preparing our accounts.
Financial Review
Total receipts on unrestricted funds were £1,214, of which £1,110 was donated by Trustee Emily Jennings to ensure necessary costs of the charity’s functioning, organization, and compliance with all regulations was covered. £53 was spent on the Pory.io subscription for the attempt at making our Mental Health Resources more user-friendly, however, we discontinued this subscription when we found that AirTable provided a similar function, as detailed above. We did not seek professional help with legal matters this year and decided to

not renew our registration with the Fundraising Regulator as the dues were increased and we would be paying more for registration than it seemed we were able to fundraise, so our total Legal and Professional Fees was £0. £86 of the cost of our multi-year Wix website subscription was recognised during the year. A prepayment of approximately £59 remained at the year end and will be recognised in the 2025–2026 financial year. £81 was paid for annual renewal of our website domains, mentnav.org and mentalhealthnavigator.co.uk, and for a Wix subscription used to split off our third domain, eamentalhealthnavigator.com, as its own website and pass it over to Julia Wise, as detailed above. £953 was paid to our accountant.
The charity ended the year with cash balances of £128.01. After recognising expenditure on prepaid subscriptions, including the Wix website subscription, the charity reported a surplus of approximately £40 for the year.
Reserves Policy
It is Board of Trustees policy to maintain a balance on unrestricted funds if possible, which equates to at least one year of unrestricted payments, equivalent to £200, to cover website maintenance costs that arise from time to time. The balance of £128.01, or £128, at the year end did not match this target, though we were closer this year than last year. Due to the nature of the changes made to our charity this year to broaden our audience, and the time it took to negotiate and make those changes between 31 October 2024 and 1 November 2025, we did not have an adequate structure to fundraise for long. We believe reaching our reserves target is more likely this year now that systems are in place to properly manage fundraising and now that we appeal to a wider community.
Volunteers
We would like to thank our volunteers for their contribution to the continued maintenance and growth of information we provide to those we serve. In particular, we would like to thank Inga Grossman for her work with public outreach in the Effective Altruism community, Lynette Bye for her work on our Providers webpage, and Emily Jennings and Liam Bligh for their work on our administrative tasks and Mental Health Resources webpage. Our volunteers ensured that our website was maintained and regularly updated.

Structure, governance, and management
The method of appointment of new Trustees is set out in the Charity Constitution. At Mental Health Navigator CIO, the membership of the Board of Trustees consists of members of the public with interests in the promotion of good mental health for all. All those who make use of our signposting service and are natural persons and above the age of 16 years are eligible for appointment to our Board of Trustees.
The Board experienced significant membership changes during the year following the resignation of two trustees and the appointment of one new trustee.
The Board of Trustees is responsible for making decisions on all matters of general concern and importance to the community served, including deciding on how the funds of the Board of Trustees are to be spent.
The full Board of Trustees met 3 times during the year with an average level of attendance of 77%. Responsibilities for maintaining the website, administrative tasks, and community outreach were divided evenly among the Trustees. Minutes were kept for each meeting and a running task list was regularly circulated and checked.

The charitable company is entitled to exemption from audit under Section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 for the year ended 31 October 2025.
The members have not required the company to obtain an audit of its financial statements for the year ended 31 October 2025 in accordance with Section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.
The trustees acknowledge their responsibilities for:
a) ensuring that the charitable company keeps accounting records that comply with Sections 386 and 387 of the Companies Act 2006 and
b) preparing financial statements which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company as at the end of each financial year and of its surplus or deficit for each financial year in accordance with the requirements of Sections 394 and 395 and which otherwise comply with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 relating to financial statements, so far as applicable to the charitable company.
These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to charitable companies subject to the small companies regime.

- 1 Basis of preparing the financial statements
These accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recognised at cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant note(s) to these accounts.
The accounts have been prepared in accordance with:

the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)',

The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and constitutes a public benefit entity as defined by FRS 102.
The charity converted from a Community Interest Company to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on 18 October 2023.
- 2 Accounting Policies
Income
Income is included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SoFA) when:

the charity becomes entitled to the resources;
-
it is more likely than not that the trustees will receive the resources;
-
the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability.
Income from interest, royalties and dividends
This is included in the accounts when receipt is probable and the amount receivable can be measured reliably.
Grants and donations
Grants and donations are included in the SoFA when the general income recognition criteria are met.
In the case of performance related grants, income must only be recognised to the extent that the charity has provided the specified goods or services as entitlement to the grant only occurs when the performance related conditions are met.
Tax reclaims on donations and gifts
Gift Aid receivable is included in income when there is a valid declaration from the donor. Any Gift Aid amount recovered on a donation is considered to be part of that gift and is treated as an addition to the same fund as the initial donation unless the donor or the terms of the appeal have specified otherwise.

Expenditure
Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all costs related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Governance and support costs
Support costs have been allocated between governance costs and other support. Governance costs comprise all costs involving public accountability of the charity and its compliance with regulation and good practice.
Support costs include central functions and have been allocated to activity cost categories on a basis consistent with the use of resources, e.g. allocating property costs by floor areas, or per capita, staff costs by the time spent and other costs by their usage.
Taxation
The charity registered as a charity on 18 October 2023 and since that date has been exempt from corporation tax on its charitable trading activities.
Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.
Debtors
Debtors (including trade debtors and loans receivable) are measured on initial recognition at settlement amount after any trade discounts or amount advanced by the charity. Subsequently, they are measured at the cash or other consideration expected to be received.
Cash at bank and in hand
Cash at bank and cash in hand includes cash and short term highly liquid investments with a short maturity of three months or less from the date of acquisition or opening of the deposit or similar account
Liability recognition
Liabilities are recognised where it is more likely than not that there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources and the amount of the obligation can be measured with reasonable certainty.
The charity has creditors which are measured at settlement amounts less any trade discounts.
