The charitable objects. are set out in our constitution and can be summarised as follows..
To relieve the needs of people with dementia andlor memory impairment. their
families and carers in Little Chalfont and the surrounding area5.
How we achleve our objectlves:
We support those living with dementia and their carers in our local area, by provldin8
memory cafés and other activities which help to relieve isolation, and to signpost
people to the appropriate support services.
In addition, we work to raise awareness of the issues faced by people living with
dementia. and their carers. and to increase undefstanding amongst the wider
community to support their interactions with those living with dementia.

The Board of Trustees meet at least four times a year. Both cafés have representation at the
Trustee Board meeting5. in order that they may report or escalate any issues arising from
weekly café meetings.
LCADS seeks to recruit trustees from the local community to form a Board with a broad and
diverse skill set. Trustees are appointed by interrflew and Board elethon with a simple
majority.
All volunteers undertake baslc dementSa awareness tralnlng and safe8uardln8 tralnSn8. The
lead volunteers are first aid trained and ￿ceIve a higher-level safeguarding training. We aim
to operate on a fatio of one volunteer to every two persons with dementia18uests1 to
maxlmlse social interaction.
Each guest attends the cafés with their carer. The carer remains responsible for the social
and medical needs of the guest.
In plannlng actlvitles. the trustees keep In mlnd the Charity Commisslon's guldance on public
benefit.
The trustees are satisfled that the charity's risk management policy and procedures
adequately address the risks to LCADS arising from its artivities.
A¢tMtles
Our core actlvitles are centred around the 2 memory cafés that we operate, In Little Chalfont
and Amer5ham. where offer refreshments. musical performance, art and craft, gentle
exercise and social interactlon. We supplement this with extemal experiences in the local
area. Including museum visits. nature walks and outdoor trips. We also work to raise
awareness of dementia in the community through information sharing and support for
related Initiatives.
A¢hlevements and perfomiance
Our two dementia cafés have continued to expand and are now welcoming approximately
70 carers and guests on a regular basis. We have been fortunate in our recruitment of
volunteers. we now have 35 regular volunteers, who work at the cafés and fairs or other
fundraising events on a rota basis. We receive fairly regular enquiries from further potential
voluntèèrs, and Pursue such Opfjons whtrè the néed arises.
We have continued to broaden our range of activities, to create a stimulating and engaging
environment to encourage our guests to take part, ￿CognIS1n8 that they are all at different
stages on their dementia journey. Over the year we have had a theatre company perform
ft)r and sing to us, and an exotic animal encounter. with reptiles and jungle insects and a

tarantula. We regularly arrange performances by bands, singers and choirs, and our guests
are often happyto sing along orto take to the floor and dance, usually accompanied by
eager volunteers. Our cafés are arranged so that our 8uests are free to move around. to try
out different activitles and to socialise with one another.
Externally, we have enjoyed trips to the Chiltern Open Air Museum, Bekonscot Model
Villa8e and nature walks. incorporating flora. fauna and history quizzes, in Little Chalfont
Nature Park and Amersham Old Town.
We ￿gUlarlY seek ftedback from carers on how well the cafés serve them and the guests,
and the feedback is almost universally positive. with several commenting on how much the
guests enjoy attendln8 and what an Important part of the week the cafés represent. We
have received some very touchin8 notes of appreciation from those who have, sadly,105t
their loved ones to the conditlon, but have appreciated the positive contribution the cafés
have made to their wellbeing as they faced the challenges of dementla.
We run monthly carer sessions where there is an open forum to discuss day-to4ay issues
being faced by our carers, these sessions a hugely benefidal. par￿cularlY for those new to
the café.
Over the year we have ¢ontlnued to bulld our relat5onships wlth other charitles, voluntsry
groups, social prescribers and I￿al businesses. We are extremely thankful to the Amersham
Community ch￿r. Skipton Buildin8 Society, Tesco and De Vere's Latlmer who have contlnued
to support our charity with volunteer help, financial help and the provision of recondittoned
laptops.
Flnanclal Revlew
During the year we have contlnued to manage our financial position prudently, utilising the
grants received in the prior year whilst increasing our cash reserves, giving us the flexibility
to expand our range of experiences or offer our support to a greater number of people livin8
with dementia. We balance this wrth the need to ensure that the charity ￿MaInS viable for
the medium term.
We have generated over £18,800 from fundraising events and from the generous donations
of individuals and organisations. We have exhausted the National Lotterygrant, which had a
two-year term. Owing to our own fundraising efforts. we have not found it necessary to seek
further 8rant funding during this current financial year.
Expenditure has been carefully monitored, to ensure the charity reserves remain robust. We
have however been able to increase expenditure on entertainment. therapy and talks. given
the increased cash inflow from our fundraising efforts. Total expenditure for the period vms
£13,511 resulting in a surplus of £8.515. The surplus carried forward at the year-end totslled
£34,945.

Our Charity Continuity Reserve has been increased to £16,(K)O, to be accessed in the event
of all other reserves bein8 exhausted and is desi8ned to cover operdtional costs for the two
cafés for 12 months, whilst other funding opportunities are explored. A further £8,iJ)O has
been allocated to an Expansion and Relocation Reser4e, as it is still expected that Cafe 22
will need to relocate, either temporarily or permanently. owing to the planned
refurbishment of the existing church from which the Café operates. We monitor the waiting
list of prospective new joiners and, although thi5 15 fluid. we continue to anticipate
eventually expandlng our offering to more local people living wlth dementfa, vSa larger
premises or a third café. For this reason. we bud8et for the inewtsble additional costs that
will accompany such expansion In this reserve. The remainin8 reSer￿S of £10,945 are
comprlsed of unrestricted funds.
The Treasurer monitors short-term and medium-term cash requirements and makes use of
deposit accounts of varylng days, access, to generate interest intome. Suth interest totalled
£770 in the flnandal year.
Rlsk Manaiement
We conslder our key risk5 to be financial stability, safeguardin& maintslnin8 adequate
volunteer support and securing suitable ￿nUeS for the cafés over the medium terni. The
fi'rst three of these are addressed earlier in this report. Regarding café venues. we have
carried out research of potential venues to support both the temporary move of Café 22 and
a third café. should we execute our expansion plan, and are confident that there are
sufficient options for us to secure affordable venues on a timely basis.
