Charitable objectives:

The objects of the charity, which are for the public benefit and to be carried out in Armenia, Cambodia, Ecuador, Italy, Portugal, S. Tome e Principe, Spain, Sri Lanka and such other countries in the world as the trustees shall from time to time decide, are:

1) the advancement of education in veterinary science, animal welfare and responsible pet ownership by organising courses, webinars and talks for veterinarians, veterinary nurses, students of veterinary science and members of the general public;

- 2) the promotion of humane behaviour towards animals and the prevention of cruelty and suffering among animals by:

a) cooperating with animal rescue and animal welfare organisations to arrange neutering, vaccination and microchipping campaigns to improve the health and welfare of animals and reduce the stray animal population;

b) providing appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for animals which are in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage by providing grants of financial assistance and offers of practical veterinary care to animal rescue and animal welfare organisations.

## **Report of the Trustees, Achievements & Performance**

The trustees present their report and the Financial Statements for the period ended 5 April 2025:

## Missions to improve animal welfare:

- Educational mission in S. Tome e Principe in Africa (January 2024) – we educated hundreds of children in schools to treat animals with kindness and respect.

- Educational mission in S. Tome e Principe in Africa (from June 2025) – we printed 2000 children’s books about treating animals with kindness and respect, shipped them into the islands (almost 600kg of books!) and will distribute them and present them in schools, together with the local charity AMA. For the first time in the history of his country, a book about animals will enter the national educational program and will be taught at the schools every year - this is a milestone!

- Neuter campaign in S. Tome e Principe in Africa (on-going since March 2025) – we donated 12.500€ to Veterinarians Without Borders – Portugal, to fund treatment, deworming, microchipping and neutering of hundreds of dogs and cats. This will reduce by thousands the number of animals that will be born on the street only to suffer, starve and be abused. In addition, it will reduce the physical and health threat that strays are posing to humans (One Health).

- Neuter campaign in Otavalo, Ecuador (November and December 2025) – we are funding a 3-week neuter campaign alongside the local animal charity Colitas de La Calle, to treat and neuter stray dogs and cats and pets belonging to indigenous families of low income in the region of Otavalo. Injured or ill animals will also receive free veterinary care. We believe that these animals deserve as much love and care as the pets we have at home! We estimate that the cost of veterinary drugs, surgical equipment, personal and equipment to capture, transport and handle the animals will cost us in the region of $25.000. We have also mobilised veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses to help, they are working pro-bono and kindly covering all of their travel expenses (accommodation, food, transports). That means that all OHANA’s budget for the campaign will go directly into helping the animals and the local indigenous communities who have limited access to veterinary care.

Veterinary courses to advance veterinary education and raise funds:

- Ericeira (May 2024) – no profit, as expected in the first course;

- Azores (September 2024) – profits of 6018 €were donated to the local animal charities Animais de Rua and Street Rescuers, to treat and neuter hundreds of stray cats in Portugal;

- Porto (May 2025) – profits of nearly 25.000€ were used to funding our educational mission in S. Tome e Principe alongside the local animal charity AMA, as well as an on-going deworming, microchipping and neuter campaign executed by Veterinarians Without Borders with our donation.

- Azores (September 2025) – profits will be donated to Veterinarians Without Borders (for our ongoing mission in S. Tome e Principe, Africa) and to the local animal charity Cantinho Dos Animais (to treat and neuter stray dogs and cats and pets belonging to families of low income in the Azores);

- Ecuador (November 2025) – profits will be used to fund a 3-week neuter campaign alongside the local animal charity Colitas de La Calle, where hundreds of stray dogs and cats and pets belonging to indigenous families of low income in the region of Otavalo will be treated and neutered.

- Educational webinars and social media content: we are proud to be offering high quality, Specialistled veterinary training to veterinarians, veterinary nurses, technicians and students worldwide, through our free monthly webinars and social media channels.

The veterinary specialists delivering courses and webinars do so on a fully voluntary basis and receive no payment for their work. The Chair Trustee initially self-funded the project and has chosen to personally cover her travel expenses when attending courses. No veterinary professional involved with Ohana receives a salary or financial compensation; all work is carried out pro bono, ensuring that all funds are directed towards helping animals in need.
