Shannon was given a safe and loving home with her adoptive parents Liz and Steve. Shannon experienced Complex P05t-Traumaiic Stress. and in her teenage years. she stru8gled lenormouslyl with feelings of shame, an8er, guilt, fear and conlusion. After her death Shannon'5 family lelt a deep 5en5e of sadne55 that she had not been 8iven acce55 to specialist trauma therapy earlier in her life, which rnight have helped her with the difficult feeling5 of her teenage years and UlmatelY prevented her death. Shannon'5 farnily set up the sm in her rnefflorywtth the aim of funding therapeutic care for children and adult5 who need it. All outcome questionnaire responses are then collated into a summary report the content of which can be used In a variety of contexts, ès well for reporting in this document. One perstsn wa5 Satisfied Jnd commented that information wa5 clear, tirnely ènd informative. The great majorlty of applicants said they expefien¢ed ¥ery positNe trnrtsfer from the th•iity to the thernpy servlce provider 19112 responses) Two people said this experience was mostly positi¥e and the remainin8 person did not see this as applicable as they were already in thernpy at Be¥¢on House. After a period of 6-9 months. two grant recipients said that havin8 a grant to fund therapy was life ¢han8in8 for them, half of all those receiying è grant said it made a major dIffenCe to them. two indicated the difference was between major and moderate, two felt It was moderate. At an approxlmate haKway point In the therapy process. Ihe resuks re8ardlThg the extent to whlch therapy had helped wlth the problems that applicants brought to therapy, were a little more widespread. One applicant felt therapy had completely helped, three felt therapy had helped significantly. one person said it was somewhere berween significant and moderate 8nd 3 people felt therapy had moderately helped with their problems. Two people felt 11 was between moderate and sllghtly and two people felt the therapy had slighily helped WlEh their problem5. These outcome5 give rise to learning that the degree of need being presented in the application5,' shows that the level and dur3tion of ther3peutic assistance was likely to need to be longer than the period of Brant fundin8 initially bein8 given, To achieve truly irnpactful chanEe and lor th15 to be Imbedded and 5ustsinable our learning wa5 that grants would in the rnain need to cover a5515tance for somewhere between 12 and 18 month5. The question asking applicant5 about changes as a re5uIt of the thetapeutic work they had done., a150 indicated a 5erise of applicants being partway through a journey of change and feeling the need to continue the work they were dging in order to con501idate change, rnake long lasting difference5 to their live5 and INe with their ttauTna experience5 in a different way. Some mentioned a reduced sense of hypervigilance and the capacity to connect to feelings and emotions mo, to feel less fearful. to look after themself better in physical and emotional way5 and manage stress more effectively. Developing boundanes with others and for thern5elves and feeling more hopeful and looking towards the future was referenced, a5 was a greater connection to children and a recognition of the impact of the consequences of trauma experience5 for their parenting and the changes they could make to Separate thi5. One applicant reported recognition of connection between their childhood experience5 and their pre5entstion5 a5 an adult, and another could now identify pattern5 in their behaviour and feel hopeful about making progress. Applicant5 expressed a sense that they now had an Opportun to make meaningful progress in changing their lives. They reco8nized the 8rant gave them access to a quality of therapy that would not otherwise be avai13ble to them. They indicated a sense ol thin8s feelin8 lighter for thern and enablir*8 thern to feel more present In the day to day. Appliconts expre55ed a wish to contlnue with the chan8e5 they were makin8 in order to heal from the ad¥er5ity and trauma of their past and the w3V th15 has impacted their lives. Applicants described them5elve5 a5 beirb8 calmer. one a better listener to his 50n and another a5 havln8 hopel where they had previously felt rbone. One applicant described the 8r3nt a5 SUPPOrtin8 her to move frorn survivin8 to living and ènother refeneed the therapy as having enabletl self4isci)very tts ¥ degree that they actively no longer walked on cliff tops and put thernselves in the way ol the potential for physical self-h¥rrn. Thi5 gave a healthy overall grant giving pot of.. £185.071.00 across 2025, which was u5e(I with care and caution acr055 the grant giving activities. A rernainder sum of.. E31,733.00 was left in the gTrnt giving pot at the point that final grants were awarded in Decernber 2025. It was identifieil that this woukb enable a further few applICatiOrI5 in early 2026. ahead of any other additional funding being forth£omin8. Annu31 runnlng tosts have Calculated and funds set aside to cover these and ensure sustainablllty. Two of the Trustees have made personal donatlons over the period of 2023124 and 2025 which have enabled ongoing runnlng costs to be covered and not take èway from the full use of the MBLT donation against grant 8ivin8 activities. There is èn on8olng commltment to further fund raise vla appllcatlons to other Charitles lor addltlonal funding whlch In turn wlll enable Smrr, to increase its grant making activities. In 2025 the Trust commenced the process ol apping to HMRC to be Tegistered for Gfft Aid. This process was disrupted by the resignation of one of the Trustees whose details were originally included In this application, which then lapsed. It wa5 resubmitted with details ol an additional Trustee and the Trust received confirmation of it5 Gift Aid claim statu5 Into the start 012026. Any credits to Trust fundin8 via the recoup ol ta¥ a8ainst d0Thatn5 made to the charity will fèll into the financlal perlod lor 2026. R•Mrv•$ pollty The Trust holds a reserve fund of approximately £I0,c which would cover further runnin8 Costs for an additional 6 rnonth period, beyond 2026 for which runniThg tosts have already been all(Kated. This level of reserves ha5 been maintained throughout the flnanclèl period of 2025 and is cothfirrned as noi having been desi8nated for any other specifi< use. The trustee5 have considered the major risks to which the charity 15 exposed and ha reviewed those risks and estab115hed systems and procedure5 to manage thern. Grant Blvlng rlsk mana¢erntnt The Tru5tee5 are ever mindful that the level of donations wdilable to SMTT are ifflpacted by the in¥e5trnents held by the f3mily charity which presently provides the 501e incorne for the Charity's grant giving. Whilst SMTh anticipate5 receipt of fundinE from MBLT in 2027 and ha5 already received it for 2026, thi5 does cate a psent risk of thi5 being the primary and sole source of income for SMTT, a problem should MBLT either deiline to fund SMTT hjrther or have their own funding restrictions and have to signifKantly reduce what theywould wish to provide for SMTT. Total grant giving funds are known and acturately monitored across eath month and grant giving ptartice. in order that all grant giving decisions are made within availèble budget. Each grant is 108ged 38ainst total funds available and reviewed monthly when invoices are paid. An update on funds available is given every three months at each Trustees, meeting and is available vi8 the Charity Administrator uw>n request at anytime in between. Towards the end of 2025 with less grant giving activity in place. the Charity Adminisrrator wè5 able to turn her èttention to the process of actively seeking our other sources of chariiable income to broaden its financial security. Grant applications have been made into 2026 but as yet, no additional fundin8 has been obtained. The Charity is aware of the highly competitive nature of these applications and the very specifi£ naiure of the application requirements which has excluded SMTT from a number of what appear to be positive fund matchine opportunities. Trustees are aware that obtaining additional funding in this way Is a hard task and is not an easy way to mitieate sole reliance on MBLT annual fvnding. Similarly, all outgoing costs are tracked in reality against the overhead cost forecast tracker.
