Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
We made a small but positive start to our charitable activities from our incorporation in October 2023 to the completion of our first full year of operations in December 2025. Our activities include:
Operations and administration
-
opening a bank account
-
establishing our IT infrastructure
-
registering with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO)
-
registering with the Fundraising Regulator
-
registering with the Premium Rate Service to support charitable donations by SMS/phone
-
registering with the Charities Aid Foundation, JustGiving and DONATE as our primary fundraising platforms.
Fundraising
We established the above channels for fundraising for our charity and raised funds to support our start-up and initial development of our Resources Website (see below).
Strategy
Trustees worked together to develop a strategy to support the charity’s achievement of its objectives, establishing its values and ways of working. Our strategy includes a set of goals across the first three years of the charity’s operations and will be reviewed in 2025.
Soft launch
In April 2024 we undertook a ‘soft launch’ of our charity through social media channels and at SurrogacyUK’s annual conference. Since that soft launch we have been building a mailing list of individuals interested to receive updates about the charity.
Resources website
Our core goal is to support the public’s understanding of surrogacy. We want to provide accurate, trustworthy resources and make information about surrogacy easily accessible to:
-
the general public, including people with a personal interest in surrogacy
-
professionals including lawyers, educators, midwives and people involved in the children’s and families court services (CAFCAS)
-
stakeholders in surrogacy including legislators and policy makers.
In late 2024 we hosted a filming day and invited people to share their lived experience of surrogacy with us, on film, for the public benefit.
We are editing those videos for publication in Spring 2025: they will be the first elements of a resources website which we hope will be amplify voices in the surrogacy community and educate people and society about surrogacy.
Looking ahead
Now that the foundations of our charity have been established, we intend, through 2025, to:
-
continue to develop our resources website, building content relevant to all audiences and finding ways to reach those audiences, including through social media
-
refine our strategy, ensuring that we can focus our available resources on activities that most directly further our charitable objects
-
increase our fundraising activities

Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves
Pending development of a formal reserves policy, Trustees have resolved to maintain a cash balance of at least £500 to support an orderly wind-down of the charity in the unlikely event that becomes necessary.
Details of any funds materially in deficit
None
Further financial review details (Optional information)
You may choose to include additional information, where relevant about:
-
the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);
-
how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;
All of our revenue to date is from donations from private individuals.
Our most significant expenditure has been on activities relating to development of our ‘Resources Website’ which will be launch in 2025. As noted above, that website will directly support our objects by providing free, accessible, reliable information directly to the public.
We have also incurred expenses relating to:
-
website hosting
-
ICO, Fundraising Regulator and other registrations.
-
investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.
