2. Structure, Governance and Management
Governing Document:
The Green Lightning Foundation is governed by its Foundation Model Constitution, adopted on 1 July 2023. As a CIO, its only voting members are its trustees.
Appointment of Trustees:
Trustees are appointed by resolution of the existing trustees in accordance with the governing document. Trustees are selected based on relevant skills and experience in STEM, education, youth development, and governance.
Safeguarding:
The trustees confirm that they have read and are following the Charity Commission's safeguarding guidance. A safeguarding policy based on NSPCC templates is available at www.greenlightning.org.

3. Objectives and Activities
Charitable Object:
To advance Scientific, Technical, Engineering, and Mathematical (STEM) education for 11 to 19-year-old students in Essex and Hertfordshire, particularly through the design, construction, and racing of electric vehicles and related subjects.
Public Benefit:
In carrying out these aims, the trustees have complied with their duty to have regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit.

Assisting with safeguarding, legal structure, and workshop facilities
4. Achievements and Performance
Year in Review:
The 2023-2024 financial year marked the foundation and registration period of the charity. While the CIO was
formally established and trustees were appointed, no operational activities took place during this period.
Key progress includes:

A reserves policy will be established once the charity begins to receive income. Initial estimates suggest operating costs of approximately £6,500 annually when fully active.
Funding Strategy:
Future income is expected from public donations (including Gift Aid), commercial sponsorship, and educational grants. Due diligence policies are in place to screen all funding sources in accordance with Charity Commission best practices.
6. Plans for the Future
The Green Lightning Foundation intends to:

Launch its first cohort STEM programme with local schools in Essex and Hertfordshire

Acquire starter electric vehicle kits and provide supervised workshops

Apply for grants and seek donations to cover operating costs

Establish relationships with commercial and academic partners for mentoring and sponsorship
