Trustees’ Annual Report for the period:
From: 27[th] July 2023 To: 31[st] March 2025
Charity name: The Fundo Foundation 159 Holtye Road East Grinstead RH19 3ER
Charity registration number: 1204990
Trustees: Mark Francis, Rachel Selleck, Asiku Gift Omela, Kathryn Asiku, Emily Brooks, Jeremy Ellwood.
Structure, Governance and Management
We have 4 trustees based in the UK, where the principal office is, and 2 trustees in Uganda. The trustees receive no remuneration or financial benefit from the charity.
We operate as a CIO and have a constitution dated 27[th] September 2023.
Any new trustees must be appointed by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees.
Objectives and Activities
The charity’s purpose is the prevention or relief of poverty in Fundo and the Ma’di District in Uganda by providing: grants, items and services to individuals in need and/or charities, or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty. We aim to advance the education of children and young people in any part of the world, particularly, but not exclusively in Fundo and the Ma’di District, by the provision of funding for qualified teachers, buildings and essential equipment.
This financial year we have:
-
Sponsored 30 young people to go to secondary school in Uganda. Many children from Fundo do not have the opportunity to go to secondary school because of the cost.
-
Provided food (maize porridge) for Fundo Primary School so that the children are able to have a meal at school every day, which also is an incentive for the children to attend school.
-
Provided funding for the Primary School for two rainwater tanks, so that the children can have access to clean water at school all year round.
-
Supplied basic materials like notebooks, pens, hygiene supplies and sanitary products for the pupils at Fundo Primary School.
Achievements and Performance
We have started up a Sponsorship Scheme so that people who donate to the charity can sponsor an individual through secondary school. This is growing year on year.
We have partnered with two UK schools, Hildenborough Primary School and Brambletye School, and one church, Market Harborough Methodist Church, to help with fundraising and raise the profile of the charity.
Some of our trustees and other supporters of the charity have competed in triathlons 10K runs and other sponsored events in order to raise funds for the charity.
We have seen an improvement in school attendance and a reduction in drop-out rates in Fundo. We now have record numbers of children completing Fundo Primary School and reaching the required standard to sit the Uganda Primary Leaving Exam, with a significant number of these being girls.
Financial Review
The bank balance at the end of March 2025 was £9,746.61.

We also received £19,679.90 in donations to general funds, as well as £2,341 towards sponsorship fees for secondary students and £90 for meals.
There was £700 donated for another primary school in Uganda, Sanctuary Junior School, which we have visited and developed links with.
We also received £75 compensation payment from Lloyds bank due to the difficulties in opening the bank account.
The total amount of money raised from July 2023 to March 2025 was £27,611.90.
Expenses
In total we transferred £16,700 to Uganda, £700 which was for Sanctuary Junior School and the remaining £16,000 for Fundo Primary School and for secondary school fees.

Of the £16,000 sent to Uganda (which amounted to $20,122.13 at the current exchange rates):
$13,869 was spent on secondary school fees.
$162.85 was spent on bank fees from exchanging the money.
The remainder of $6,080 was spent on maize porridge for school meals and buying learning materials and hygiene products for the children, like toothbrushes, toothpaste and sanitary pads. Also $196 of this amount went to a new teaching assistant who started in January 2025.
We have a reserves policy that states that we are reserving £8,066.67 in the bank account, in order to pay for at least one term of school fees, meals for students and other supplies that they may need.
