governance procedures.  Worked closely with the communities most affected by HIV and AIDS to ensure their voices are reflected both in the development and siting of the memorial, and in the stories and learning that it will share with the wider public. Much of this progress was made possible through the generous support of philanthropist Doug Atkin. His funding enabled AMUK to meet core organisational costs, supported the appointment of our Creative Lead, and funded the development of community engagement projects that have maintained public awareness and understanding of the memorial during its development. These activities have also helped demonstrate the continuing need for a national public memorial, highlighting the importance of remembrance, collaboration and collective action in response to one of the defining global health crises of our time.

In carrying out these activities, the Trustees have had due regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit. All of the charity's work is directed towards the creation of the London AIDS Memorial and the delivery of its associated public engagement programme, both of which are intended to provide lasting public benefit through education, remembrance, reflection and community engagement.

## **Section E Financial review**

5

**Brief statement of the charity’s policy on 1**

**Reserves Policy:** The Trustees have reviewed the charity's needs for reserves in line with the guidance issued by the Charity Commission. The Trustees aim to firstly hold a level of unrestricted Reserves which enables the charity to have sufficient financial resources to meet various liabilities which would crystallise if its funding were to be withdrawn and/or it was unable to continue operating. At present, the Trustees estimate that the Unrestricted Reserves required for such purposes amount to approximately 3 months’ running costs, which in 2024-25 was £1500. AMUK operates via a freelance/ Board model, so has low liabilities and operating costs.

The Trustees regularly review specific liabilities at each Board meeting. A Reserves Policy has been established and is re-visited by the Board annually in the light of progress against budget and is updated at the time of drafting the annual accounts.
