1. Introduction
The trustees present their annual report and the accounts of Project Planet Earth for the year ending 31/08/2025. This report provides a summary of our activities, achievements, and financial position, demonstrating our commitment to transparency and accountability in relation to our charitable objectives.
2. Objectives and Activities
Core activities remained the same in our second year – looking to raise awareness through attending public events, providing school talks and private/public invite beach cleans – with the majority of this promoted through use of social media and press.
3. Achievements and Performance
Based against our core activities we achieved the following –
- 9 school talks delivered to local (Dorset) schools
7 awareness events attended – which included a variety of events including a podcast and partnership with the National Trust
20 Beach Cleans completed – with a total of 911kg of waste removed from beaches
116 volunteers attended beach cleans
4. Financial Review
Summary of Financial Performance: Total Income was £3790 and Total Expenditure was £ 6390
In comparison to our first year of operation the income from donations was noticeably smaller, and expenditure was very similar to previous.
Our detailed accounts are included in appendix 1 .
Net Assets: Our charity has no net assets.
Financial Reserves Policy: The charity aims to maintain a reserve of £2000 to cover expected costs around administration and IT systems .
5. Structure, Governance, and Management
The charity continues to be governed by a board of trustees. Our trustees during the 2024- 2025 period were: 1) Nicholas Baker 2) Rebekah Harris 3) Stuart Purcell, with a previous founding trustee Cathy Lewis unfortunately resigning the position in November 2024. The charity operates under a constitution that guides decision-making, supported by our policies and procedures. Our governing document outlines our working practices and regular meetings are held to ensure effective governance and compliance. Our guiding principles are to ensure full transparency of all activities and finances and to harness a volunteering spirit in all our activities. We are meticulous in ensuring there are no personal gains for trustees and no vested interest being forwarded by trustees. We have developed risk policies for our beach cleans and awareness events. Safeguarding policy and measures are in place for all charitable activities.
6. Future Plans
Our second year of operation has shown us some shortcomings and minor risks to operations that we not evident in our first. Likely we have ridden the wave of optimism and generosity in the first year, and have noticed
our performance has been slightly lower this year. In identifying items to address for our third year we have noted the following –
-
Increase the number of ambassadors to maximise options for beach cleans (currently relying on 1 or 2 people is not sustainable)
-
Increase alternative income streams to enable financial forecasting
-
instead of relying heavily on donations
-
Improve and add to our governance – safeguarding policy to be updated, introduce training for volunteers and trustees
7. Acknowledgments
We receive a huge amount of support in various forms from volunteers, from assistance on the beaches cleaning, to professional advice on our activities and fundraising. To all we say a huge thank you – your endeavours continue to keep us going and its truly appreciated.
