Structure and Governance
Garden of Eden is governed by a board of four trustees. The charity operates as a noncompany voluntary organisation, with all trustees sharing equal responsibility for oversight and strategic direction.
Trustees are recruited through a recommendation process initiated by existing board members. Prospective trustees must be unanimously approved by all current trustees before being formally appointed. This ensures alignment with the charity’s values and commitment to its mission.
The trustees meet monthly to discuss the charity’s progress, review activities, and make decisions regarding future initiatives. These meetings serve as a forum for collaborative governance, enabling trustees to consult with one another and ensure that all actions taken are in the best interest of the charity and its beneficiaries.
The accounts for the period 25 September 2023 – 31 December 2024 have been subject to an independent examination under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011, carried out by Mohammad Hoque on a voluntary basis.
Activities and Objectives
Garden of Eden’s primary objectives during the financial period have centred around fundraising efforts to support the development of a purpose-built Muslim burial site. This goal reflects the charity’s long-term vision to provide a dedicated space for dignified and culturally appropriate burials for the Muslim community.

In addition to this, the charity aims to support Muslim burials across Devon by working with local councils to ensure that burials are conducted in accordance with Islamic traditions within council-owned cemeteries.
Achievements and Performance
During the financial period, Garden of Eden made meaningful progress toward its objectives and delivered tangible public benefit to the Muslim community across Devon.
The charity successfully organised and hosted a fundraising lunch, which not only raised essential funds to support the charity in establishing a dedicated Muslim burial site, but also strengthened community engagement and awareness of the charity’s mission. The event was well attended and received generous support, demonstrating strong public backing for the charity’s goals.
In parallel, the charity has actively supported Muslim burials throughout the county by liaising with local councils to ensure that burial arrangements are carried out in accordance with Islamic traditions. This work has provided comfort and reassurance to bereaved families and has helped uphold religious and cultural practices within public burial services.
Through these activities, Garden of Eden has demonstrated its commitment to serving the community and advancing its charitable aims, while laying the groundwork for future development of its dedicated burial site.
Financial Review
During the financial period from 25 September 2023 to 31 December 2024, Garden of Eden received total receipts of £26,083.66, of which £25,885.04 was generated through unrestricted community donations. A portion of these funds were used to cover payments associated with organising a fundraising lunch, which supported the charity’s objectives and community engagement. After accounting for this and other operating payments, the charity’s closing cash balance as of 31 December 2024 was £23,219.80. The charity has no outstanding debts or liabilities and holds no fixed assets or investments. The charity currently holds unrestricted reserves to support future activities. Given the charity’s current size and funding model, a formal reserves policy has not yet been adopted. The trustees are committed to reviewing this position annually as the charity grows.
