**Pippins Community Centre Lyme Road Axminster Devon EX13 5AZ** **29 July 2026** ## **Pippins Community Centre Trustees Report 2024/25** This Financial Year has been a great year for Pippins as we have seen the continuation of many of our people and projects not just flourishing, blossoming and growing but now being fruitful. This feels very exciting and very wonderful to be a part of. One of the areas we have seen bearing fruit is: **Project Flourish** which started as new initiative working with Axe Valley Academy and Action for Children with young people falling through the net of mainstream education. The students got involved in garden design for our community garden, helping to build raised beds, planting up the raised beds, baking and arts and crafts. This project has now grown into a much bigger project with Project Flourish being the umbrella for many activities that promote flourishing such as our Pippins Pathway into Volunteering, Our Community Garden and Community Garden Team, our Work Experience Students, our Project Flourish Students, our Baking vibe and our young Housekeeping Team. It is delightful to see centre life and those that are immersed here being fruitful! Another area that we have seen become fruitful over the last year is: **Gentle Wednesdays.** One of our team during June 25 noticed that others were popping into the centre and enjoying the our space by pottering around, perhaps baking, gardening, watering the plants, playing the guitar in a quiet bench or perhaps reading a book. They clearly reflected on that and asked ‘could we have a quiet space for gentle people like me to come and use the space? And the noisy extroverts aren’t invited!’ Amazing! Gentle Wednesdays was soon born and many people have really enjoyed the quiet part of our rhythm as well as a quiet, unhurried session. This has been so important for people’s mental health and wellbeing. **Youth Provision Conversations** has provided a good space for people from various agencies and community groups to really reflect on what young people are falling through the net of provision and the opportunity to do something about it by setting up new groups and initiatives. We now feel that our work is done and this space for conversation has come to an end which lots of lovely initiatives to celebrate. Our **Pippins Trustees** have continued to work hard on preparing to take on the 10-year Full Repairing Lease from Devon County Council as well as ensuring that the centre is governed and run well and all of our paid staff are supported. Our Trustees have continued to do an amazing behind the scenes job and we are hugely grateful for the time that they give and the support that each of them give to the Centre Director individually and collectively as a team. For a young team they readily demonstrate wisdom beyond their years and truly do undergird the good community work here and ensure good governance of Pippins. We are enormously proud of our Trustee Team. The **Axminster Drug and Alcohol Recovery Project** continues to thrive with some of our clients in recovery volunteering on other days which is wonderful. We feel that the stigma of addiction has and is being broken down here and some brilliant conversations and understanding have taken place. A wonderful Music Recovery Project has come up from the grass roots of our Hub and we are excited to see where it goes. The Hubcaps is the performing arm of the project and they made their debut performance at The Lyme Regis Busking Festival during May 2025 and their first home performance here at Pippins in June 2025 at our Spring Fling. We are all enormously proud of this project and the way that it breaks down the stigma of addiction, breaks down barriers and promotes conversation with those in recovery and their loved ones. It’s just brilliant! **A beautiful building IN a beautiful Community Garden.** This year we have worked hard on transitioning our grounds into one big community garden. We have used wood from our local saw mill and wood chip from a local tree surgeon as the texture along with herbs and planting to attract pollinators and butterflies. It has worked a treat. The raised beds in our seating areas and small pond in our wildlife garden have been much appreciated by pollinators and humans alike! Our two church families continue gather at Pippins; **Axminster Methodist Church and The LIFE Community (Baptist Prayer Community)** and continue to be the spiritual heart of Pippins and along with our prayer groups, undergird Pippins in prayer for which we are hugely grateful. They have started cohosting Bread Church this past year and we love it on Thursdays when the smell of home baked bread floods the building! The most fruitful area of Pippins life this year has to be our whole team made up of volunteers and paid roles. The sense of team is wonderful and palpable. Our team is our biggest asset and amazing to think that people that have come to Pippins for some form of help, and many have joined in and started to inform our Pippins story. We now talk of indigenous Pippins people because that it what we see – a living, breathing, beautiful story of wonderful people that are part of a living, breathing and now fruitful community. We love being Pippins and we love what we do and for 2025/2026 we are focussing on finishing off our Community Garden, getting the windows fully restored, getting the Lease signed off seeing what happens amongst our beautiful fruitful people. We are excited about the year ahead.
