Structure, Governance and Management Governing Document

The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, governed by a Constitution, and is registered with the Charity Commission under charity number 1204796

Organisational Structure

The trustees are responsible for the general control and management of the charity. The trustees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits to fulfil this role. The charity are responsible for all decisions taken in relation to the overall control and management of the charity.

Recruitment, Appointment and Training of Trustees

The current trustees are responsible for the appointment of new trustees. New trustees are brought into the organisation, when required, on the basis of eligibility, competence, specialist knowledge and skills. It is the policy of Al-Bushra Academy that each trustee during induction is given a copy of the trust deed, the latest audited accounts, recent meeting minutes and guidance regarding the policies and procedures adopted by our charity.

Risk Management

Risks are assessed, identified, managed and constantly reviewed. A set of policies are set to be made for the upcoming financial year ending March 2025. The policies will be set and authorised by the trustees.

Objectives and Activities

To advance the religion of Islam, by providing facilities for worship and by providing Islamic education in accordance with the charity doctrine.

To relieve financial hardship amongst poor people and others in need by making grants and providing other necessities for the said persons.

Summary of main activities

The charity has worked towards achieving the said objectives by continuing to provide

the following services:

Publishing and distribution of Islamic literature: Al-Bushra Academy published a beneficial 4 page journal which was distributed in March.The trustees then

endeavoured to distribute these leaflets to the public by distributing after the Friday prayer and also to some supplementary schools. The academy will continue to publish these journals on a quarterly basis.

Distribution of hajj and umrah packs and yearly calendar's to the public, supplementary schools and masques around Blackburn.

Counselling: The charity can be contacted by people who seek help and advice on difficulties they are experiencing in life. The contact number and details of the academy are available on the journal's.

Weekly gathering: Every week the trustees and selected individuals get together at one of the trustees houses to participate in a spiritual gathering.

Statement

The trustees have had regard of and comply with the guidance issued by the charity commission on public benefit.

Contribution of volunteers.Trustees gave their time on a voluntary basis.

Achievements

It is the aim of the charity to fulfil its objectives by carrying out the activities mentioned above. Over the last financial year, the charity has achieved the following:

The charity succeeded in publishing a 4 page journal, 500 journals were distributed at different mosques and supplementary schools in and around Blackburn with Darwen.

The trustees would interact in a friendly manner whilst distributing and also offer informal advice when called upon.

The charity also distributed hajj and umrah pilgrimage sets to intending travellers to the holy lands.

A spiritual gathering also took place on a weekly basis but was only confined to certain individuals and not for the general public as this took place at a house of one of the trustee's. Finally, to further the activities of the charity, trustees continue to search for a building. The charity identified a few buildings during the last year which were suitable for its purposes, and also attempted to purchase them. None of the offers for purchase reached completion.

Financial Review

Al-Bushra Academy’s source of funding income is through regular donations from the public. Donations were received throughout the year in person and through standing orders.
