Section 3: Activities and Achievements

The Caregivers Support trust was formed as a result of the original trustees becoming aware of the issues affecting unpaid family caregivers by personal connections. The spouse of one of the trustees is a Colombian citizen. Her sister adopted a girl, (Diana Paola), when her birth parents very sadly abandoned her. Diana was born with cerebral palsy. Over recent years her condition has deteriorated and the strain on her mother has been tremendous. It has been heartbreaking to watch and the trustees have become aware that there are many others families in Colombia in a similar situation.

Heroínas en la Sombra -Unsung Heroines -

Heroínas en la Sombra -Unsung Heroines- English translation- is a small charity based in Santa Marta Colombia. It is registered under Colombia law. Their aim is to support unpaid family caregivers. The charity is run by volunteers, who are unpaid caregivers themselves.

They meet every other month. It is a very precious time for them, where they have a break, a respite of their daily task, where they share experience and also are able to socialise. This social interaction is fundamental to prevent the “Caregivers Burn Syndrome”.

Their vision is: To create a Community Caring Centre where they can offer support to unpaid family caregivers and young adults with communication disabilities and physical impairment. The vision is vast and so are the needs!. This is a long term project but they are starting with increasing opportunities for socializing and providing respite care.

Finances.

Finance sent to Colombia from The Caregivers Support Trust for the financial year from: 5[th] April 2024 to 4[th] April 2025 was £800.00. The money was transferred through the international platforms MoneyGram and Western Union. It has proved difficult to arrange a mechanism to transfer the money directly to the Fundación Heroínas en la Sombra -Unsung Heroines Foundationbank account; as this facility to transfer to a charitable organizations account is not offered by any banking company that we have approached.

The Trustees consider the financial performance of the charity during the year has been satisfactory. Regular finance reports are received following all their charitable activities.

A visit was made to Colombia by a Trustee (E. White) and secretary of the charity (D. White). During the visit their activities were observed and finances examined. As per our Constitution this visit was at Mr. & Mrs. White own expense.

Section 4: Policies

Public Benefit Requirements Policy.

The trustees seek to ensure that all activities undertaken by The Caregivers Support Trust are in line with our charitable aims and objectives and are for the public benefit as required by the Charities Acts.

Grant Making Policy

1. Priorities for support.

The amount of work or number of projects that can be supported by the Trustees is necessarily limited to the level of funds that are available for distribution each year.

The Trustees have determined that the current priorities for funding are:

1.1 The provision of respite services to support the mental and physical health of caregivers.

1.2. The assistance of caregivers in poverty or financial hardship.

The priorities for support will be reviewed by the Trustees every three years or at a time of significant need arising that the Trustees determine a review is necessary.

Changes will be made depending upon circumstances and the perceived effectiveness of the application of funds. Any change of these priorities must still fulfil the charitable purpose and objectives of the charity.

2. Principles:

The Trustees will apply the following principles in determining the level of support and suitability for any grant awards:

2.1 Demonstration of meeting the core values and relevant objectives of The Caregivers Support Trust
