## **In Sam’s Name**

## **Chairman’s Report**

## **For the year ending 14[th] September 2025**

## **1. Introduction**

It gives me great pleasure to present this report on behalf of the trustees of “In Sam’s Name”. This year has been one of transition following the resignation of our chairman and co-founder, due to personal reasons, and dealing with the current financial pressures which have been brought on by the general “cost of living” crisis and changes in priorities for funding. However, the public, local organisations and business in North Nottinghamshire continue to support our activities and I am proud of what our volunteers and trustees have achieved by working together.

## **2. Purpose and Public Benefit**

Our charity exists to provide “the relief of those in need, by way of, mental health illness through the provision of peer support”. All our activities are In line with our governing document and the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit, we have worked to ensure that all activities directly support this aim.

## **3. Key Achievements in the Year**

Over the past year we have been able to support 900 individuals who have attended our “peer support” group meetings in Worksop, Retford, Ollereton and Kirkby in Ashfield. The “In Sam’s Name” fishing group, started in 2025, continues to grow and allows those who do not feel comfortable in a group meeting setting to meet and talk in an open environment.

In the later part of 2025, a new support group was started in the village of Whitwell and has now become established, thanks to the hard work of our volunteer group meeting facilitator and continues to grow offering our services to Whitwell and other surrounding villages.

We have now engaged further with business and have been able to attend multiple events where we are able to present and discuss men’s mental health issues, what our support groups offer and advice on what signs to look out for that may signal someone is struggling with their mental health. The charity was also invited to attend events at the local college of further education and to present to various groups of students

At the beginning of the year the trustees decided that we wanted to try and engage further with local businesses and strengthened ties with other organisations. To achieve this aim, we have attended multiple events across Nottinghamshire to engage with the public and other charities.

## **4. Financial Overview**

Our income for the year was £71,815, with expenditure of £73,468. We remain financially stable at the financial year-end and committed to ensuring the going concern of In Sam’s Name.

## **5. Thanks, and Acknowledgements**

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our dedicated team of volunteers/meeting facilitators, trustees, and supporters. Without your commitment and generosity, we would not be able to carry out the work we do.

## **6. Looking Ahead**

In the coming year, we plan to continue to serve our community and deliver on our charitable objectives. We will always be available to open new “In Sam’s Name” peer support groups across the North Nottinghamshire area wherever the need may arise. In addition, we will continue to offer our services to local business and organisations.

We will endeavour to continue our policy of engaging with other charities and to hold events that will act not only as fundraising, but also to raise the profile of mental health issues and to dispel the stigma associated with these health issues.

Signed:

John Stephen
